Yesterday on Chronically Illing Out, our guest was Nieta Greene, CEO and Founder of Disability Community for Democracy, Inc. Publisher of Nothing About Us Without Us.

Even though I do not live in the USA, as I am in Canada, I know advocating for the rights of civilians is crucial, especially right now. Then, when I think of all the people who have to manage living their daily lives with disabilities, I can only imagine the extra work you must put it in order to have access to services which are already limited, and this in the context of gutting DEI and the pernicious effect it has. Nieta’s work is commandable and her passion and plea for better ‘humaning’ is contagious.

This past Wednesday, we had the honor of having a unique and wonderful guest on our show, , a hand embroidery artist living and working in Ireland.

"Slave to the Stitch" is the artist moniker of Owen Kelly, a celebrated, fifth-generation hand-embroidery artist based in West Cork, Ireland. Known for his "flow stitching" technique, his work has been widely praised in the needlework community for its vibrant storytelling, intuitive symbolism, and rich incorporation of mythology. 1

and I were absolutely charmed by Owen. It was the first time he was being ‘interviewed’ on Substack. Honestly, this didn’t feel like an interview. It was a pure moment of joy, discussing his personal journey and how he navigated life, overcoming social stigmas to become one of the most sought-out embroidery artists in the crafting community.

Personal note:

Even though I am French-Canadian, I recently discovered I have an Irish ancestor and now think that this is why intuitively Ireland has always felt like a faraway home to me. I visited for the first time 2 summers ago, and I felt in my bones I was definitely connected to the Emerald Isle. Genetic memory, passed on through generations, recognizing the sights, smells, and emotions it brought up in my whole being, perhaps that is why?

After crashing Restream, Substack, our 2 Internet Connections (One in Washington, the other in Québec), we FINALLY were able to go live today. I would like to thank for being such a great sport and putting up with all the crazy voodoo stuff that happened to us. we couldn’t pull it off without you either!

I have no idea how I could start a live on Substack, get off screen (while the show was still active) and rejoin that live later. I have no idea either how we ended up with the ‘Intelligent Masculinity’ banner either. Thank you ‘Not our dad’ for letting us broadcast through . I will absolutely understand if you change the user logins from now on.

Time for a new Jukebox update!

Today, this freshly recorded song is dedicated to a member of our online community. Interestingly, the title ‘Je suis malade’ means ‘I am ill’. It is a mythical song, originally written in 1973 and interpreted by Serge Lama. This song propelled him to stardom in France.

Author and music lover Simon Boulerice wrote about the song :

“It’s an intense song that exacerbates heartbreak and exudes despair. It reflects our state of decay when we’re madly in love.”

In 1994, the song was performed by the singer Lara Fabian, on her second album. She became an immediate success here in Québec, Canada, and became a recognized and talented singer here in our French-speaking province BEFORE even making it in Europe, where she originally comes from. This success eventually led her to be known as one of the best female vocalist in all the Francophonie.

we were back today for a new episode of Time for Life! It was great to catch up with Beth. Long time no post…

It was a bit of a crazed week, and I haven’t been very active this week.
