ICYMI: Your Dashboard Just Got a Major Upgrade

We’ve rolled out some exciting improvements to the Dashboard to help you stay more organized and work the way that works best for you!

With the new update, you can now archive your stories, making it easier to keep your workspace clean without losing anything important.

To archive a story:

To find your archived stories later, you’ll see an Archived tab at the top where you can browse through them all. If you don’t have any archived stories, that tab will disappear until you archive one again.

You can also sort your projects, filter by project type, search quickly within each tab, and switch between views.

You can choose from small, medium, or large story cards, or opt for a list view if that’s more your style.

Big News: Your Dashboard Just Got a Major Upgrade

Tips & Tricks for Using Music in Your Story

In preparation for SoCreate Publishing, adding music to your story can help fully immerse your audience in the world you’re creating. The right song can shape emotion, build tension, set the pace, and make a scene feel more cinematic. If you’re not sure how to add music, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few helpful tips and tricks for adding music to your story:

1. Be Descriptive

When adding music, try to describe the mood, genre, or energy you want. A more detailed description will help bring your vision to life.

Examples:

• A Christmas jingle.

• Upbeat electronic music with a driving beat.

• Soft acoustic guitar with a nostalgic tone.

• Dark, pulsing synth music builds suspense.

The more specific you are, the easier it is to create the exact feeling you want for the moment.

2. Think About Volume

Volume can dramatically change how a scene feels.

• Low volume = subtle, in the background, barely noticeable

• Medium volume = present and clearly heard without overpowering the scene

• Loud volume = bold and dominant, like music at a concert, club, or party

Make Your Story Heard: Sound Effect Tips

Publishing is coming up, and it’s time to add sound effects to your story!

When preparing your story for SoCreate Storyteller, sound effects can make a world of difference. They add texture, realism, and emotional depth, helping your audience feel like they’re inside the scene, not just observing it. With the right sound description, you can elevate your storytelling!

Here are some simple, effective sound descriptions you can steal for your story and use in SoCreate Writer:

• A door slowly opening — 2 seconds

• A door slowly closing — 2 seconds

• Glass shattering — 2 seconds

• Knocking on a wooden door — 3 seconds

• A cell phone ringing — 6 seconds

• Car tires screeching — 3 seconds

• Chair scraping across the hardwood floor — 2 seconds

• A drawer opening quickly — 1 second

• Metal keys jingling — 2 seconds

• A door lock clicking — 1 second

• A loud gunshot — 1 second

• Paper crumpling — 2 seconds

Pro tips:

• You can adjust the length of your sound effects. Visualize how long you want the audience to hear it, then set the duration in seconds to match that moment.

• Be mindful of timing and sequence. If a sound effect happens during an action or line of dialogue, it will play underneath it. For example, if a chair is scraping across a hardwood floor during the action, it will be heard as the words are said. If a sound effect comes at the end of an action or dialogue, the next action or dialogue won’t begin until the sound finishes playing.

• Keep descriptions concise but specific.

Sound is one of the easiest ways to instantly elevate your story without adding extra dialogue or action. A well-placed sound effect can build tension, signal a shift, or make a moment feel more real! As you prepare for publishing, take a pass through your scenes and look for opportunities where sound can do the storytelling for you.

Bring Your Story to Life with Sound

With the launch of SoCreate Publishing approaching, now’s the perfect time to fine-tune every detail of your story! One of the easiest ways to elevate your work is with ambient sounds; they can make your scenes feel alive and immersive.

The best way to think about ambient sounds is to imagine yourself in the setting. What background noises would you hear? The more you notice, the more detailed and immersive your scene will feel.

When sounds naturally occur together, they can be combined into a single track, just make sure they naturally belong together in the same environment. For example, traffic noise and cars honking work well together, just like ocean waves and seagulls. If the sounds wouldn’t typically exist in the same space, it’s best to place them in two separate tracks.

Dynamic Dialogue with Character Aliases

You now have even more control over how your characters are revealed on the page. Characters can speak under any of their aliases, allowing dialogue to evolve naturally as identities are revealed.

For example, if a character begins the story as an “Unknown Voice” or a masked identity, their dialogue can remain anonymous until they’re revealed. Once that reveal happens, the same character can seamlessly begin speaking under their real name, without breaking continuity or creating a new character.

How to use alias dialogue:

1. Open your story in SoCreate Writer.

2. Navigate to a dialogue line.

3. Next to the character’s name, click the down arrow.

4. Select one of the character’s alias names from the list.

Once selected, that character will speak under the chosen alias for that line, making it easy to reflect shifts in identity, perspective, or secrecy.

Add Depth with Multiple Ambient Soundtracks

Bring your stories to life with our new multiple-track ambient sounds feature! You can now layer several background sounds at once, creating richer, more immersive environments that pull your audience directly into the world you’re building.

How to add multiple ambient sounds:

1. Click the sound button to reveal a wave icon on each story item.

2. Select the wave icon where you want the background sound to begin.

3. Write a description of the first background sound you want to hear. Choose the volume level of your ambient sound.

To add another sound, click + Track at the top of the box and write another description.

Example:

• “People typing on computers.”

• “A light murmur of people in conversation.”

You can combine sounds into a single track if they would normally be heard at the same time. If the sounds wouldn’t naturally occur together, use separate tracks.

4. Click Add to confirm.

You can apply the same ambient sound to multiple story items:

1. Click the plus (+) icon to select additional items.

2. Hold Shift while clicking the plus icon to include everything between two selections.

3. Use the minus (–) icon to remove items if needed.

4. Click Apply once your selection is complete.

To make edits later:

1. Click the blue-highlighted wave icon.

2. Use the three-dot menu to edit the description, adjust the length, or delete the sound.

With multiple-track ambient sounds, every story can feel fully alive in SoCreate Storyteller. Layer your ambient sounds to match your vision, strengthen emotional impact, and guide your audience through every moment!

Introducing Stream-Item Level Appearance & Wardrobe Changes

We’ve made a major upgrade to how characters evolve on screen! You can now change appearance and wardrobe at the stream-item level, giving you precise, moment-by-moment control over your characters.

Stream-Item Level Appearance Changes

Characters can now visually evolve exactly when it happens in the story. If a character gets a haircut, a black eye, or a new tattoo, you can add that change to the exact stream-item where it occurs, and that appearance will persist until you change it again.

How to add a character’s base appearance:

1. Head to your Story Toolbar and hover over the character you’d like to edit

2. Click the blue “i” icon, then select Menu, then Edit Appearance

   

3. A pop-up will appear where you can describe the character’s appearance

In the main description box, define how the character should appear on screen, hair color and cut, height, build, facial features, scars, or any unique traits. Any details you leave out will be filled in by our AI Production Studio, but the more specific you are, the closer the visuals will match your vision.

How to add an appearance change to a stream-item:

1. Click the arrow on the chapter or scene where the change occurs

2. Select Add Appearance Change

3. Choose the exact stream-item where the change happens

You can now include multiple appearance changes throughout your story. Keep in mind: the last appearance change you describe remains active until you add a new one later in the story.

Stream-Item Level Wardrobe Changes

Your characters’ wardrobe can now evolve naturally, exactly when it happens. If your character’s outfit changes mid-scene or mid-chapter, no problem. Simply describe each wardrobe change at the stream-item where it happens.

For wardrobe, think like a costume designer. The last wardrobe you describe will carry forward through all subsequent scenes or chapters until you introduce another change.

When describing a wardrobe, be as detailed as possible:

• Start with the era or overall style

• Describe the top (sleeve length, color, texture, fit)

• Detail the bottoms (length, cut, color, material)

• Include shoes, jewelry, and accessories

Every detail matters, whether a shirt is tucked in, a jacket is unbuttoned, or hair is pulled into a bun. The more descriptive you are, the more accurate and polished the final on-screen result will be.

How to add wardrobe details:

1. Go to the Story Toolbar and hover over the character

2. Click the blue “i” icon, then select Menu

3. Choose the option to describe the character’s wardrobe

To add a wardrobe change to a stream-item:

1. Click the arrow on the chapter or scene where the change occurs

2. Select Add Wardrobe Change

3. Choose the stream-item where the wardrobe changes

You can now add multiple wardrobe changes across your story, with full continuity control. Your character will stay in their last described outfit until you change it again.
