I had one of those sparky thoughts just as my head hit the pillow last night. Sleep did not put out the flame, so here I am, sharing it with you today because it feels IMPORTANT.

As an oracle reader for many moons now, I tend to think in terms of card energies, its the way my mind naturally works. So when I got in my office to write first thing today, I had three cards fully formed in my head and promptly sought them out and put them together on a shelf - to return to later. To write this…

Here they are:

In a Soul Reading I work with the Tarot, Angel and Magic of Nature oracles… their combined energies giving a well balanced and grounded perspective on any given situation. I usually use three from each deck but one of each here will be enough to illustrate what came through in the night…

Mostly, the readings I give are about our spiritual path and the practices we can work with to strengthen our connection to Spirit and our Magical Nature. This is the direction and purpose our soul calls us to, so it’s wise to listen and apply the knowledge, weaving it into our own spiritual and magical practice.

BUT…

There is no practice without the allocation of time and space. We have to create that time and space for ourselves. It is valuable and sacred time.

You want to become better acquainted with your guides and angels in the spirit world?

Make time for them.

You want a stronger relationship with them?

Make time for them.

It’s not enough to do it on a new or full moon, or every time you really want something.

Do it regularly. Create a routine. Make it a habit.

Make time for your spiritual and magical self.

You want to create WEALTH in every aspect of your life?

Make time for it.

Here is where the cards come in with their loud and clear message of BOUNDARIES.

The Hermit

The energy of the Hermit is spacious. It’s the energy you can create for yourself with no one’s influence but your own. He represents the search for inner knowledge through SOLITUDE. Time on your own. He highlights a need for personal space and introspection. His presence is a clear indicator that you have all the answers and you don’t need outside help.

Listen to him!

Retreat into stillness and silence. Get comfortable with the quiet, because you will not hear the voice of your guides, angels or your intution without it. Be patient and slowly but surely what you are seeking will find you…

Say NO more often. Your time is precious. How much of your time do you share with too many others? Boundaries are fundamental for creating space and time for YOU. Snuggle up with Hermit and allow him to guide you into this space… and he will.

You don’t need to believe me. Trust in yourself and create whatever boundaries you need to allow for the magic to happen.

Archangel Michael

Time to call the angels in. Michael is the great protector and guardian of your energy. See that sword he’s wielding? It’s there to cut away every fear, doubt and worry you have. It will prune off all the distractions that get in the way of this all important work of spiritual connection.

How? You ask him to, that’s how. That is why these guides are here, to help you! But you have to ask them and set yourself up for it. And the best way to do that is to settle into your sacred space and give yourself the time for it. Sounds simple, and it really is when you decide this is what you want. When you are clear about the way you are going to do it and when you have faith in your ability to make it happen… there are fewer mightier beings of light and healing than this fella, I can tell you.

I’ll say it again… Trust in yourself and create whatever boundaries you need to allow for the magic to happen.

Robin

This cutey reminds us how important it is to define limits on our time and personal space. He represents the protection and freedom we give ourselves when we develop healthy boundaries. If you have difficulty saying NO to others, Robin will highlight where over-commitment and compromise can lead to doing too much. He helps to redress the balance in your working and personal relationships.

How? Give up the need to constantly please and stop punishing yourself with guilt. Setting healthy boundaries will set you free from the chains that bind you. They will free up your time and your space, and as a result you will have more time for you and your spiritual growth.

Remember, in order to grow we need the time and space for it!

A magical practice will give you that.

Honestly. Trust in yourself and create whatever boundaries you need to allow for the magic to happen.

Okay, I will stop the finger wagging… but honestly, this is one of the most important lessons we can learn to create all the wealth in every aspect of our lives:

• Health

• Creativity

• Loving relationships

• Money

• Spiritual Path

• Time and space

All your abundance flows from within. Tap into it. Work with it. Benefit from it.

Writing Magic

I’m currently editing Witchblood, book two in The Grail Maiden series, all 132K words of it! It’s a much cleaner draft than the first book so broomsticks crossed, it’ll be a quicker process. Famous last words.

When I’m done, I can then start work on the cover with the designer of book one. I loved the whole process of that, so am looking forward to seeing it come to life in a professional’s hands again!

JOIN THE MONTHLY LIVE WORKSHOPS HERE

Apologies for missing a couple of weeks, I’ve been recalibrating - in other words trying to work out where my head is after returning from four days at an author conference in Ireland. It was a time of intensity and great fun. Meeting authors who I’d only ever ‘met’ online which was amazing, and many who I hadn’t.

Here’s one of those author friends, P.M Gilbert, who writes Arthurian Celtic Fantasy Adventure. Philip and I are in an online author group together but it was great to meet him in person and a good excuse to do some filming…

When you’re in a whirlwind of constant activity involving airports (Ian and I missed our plane to start with), back to back presentations and talks, communal lunches, gala dinners, plus taxi-ing back and forth from the conference venue to our hotel twice a day you don’t have much time to catch your breath let alone digest what’s going on… until you get home.

It’s definitely taken a while to decompress and process our experience.

Tarot Magic

One of the things I’ve been doing to bring myself back down to earth after the madness and magic of Ireland is clearing out my office. And one of the folders I came across was a tarot manual I wrote for my students a few years ago…

I created quite a few card spreads for different purposes, and one in particular caught my eye to share with you. Of course I am not ignoring the fact that synchronistically it’s the perfect fit for my addled brain at the moment… so I pulled these very cards to illustrate the the spread which is based on the well-known Serenity Prayer.

Serenity Spread

Method

• Focus on your intention and say the prayer while shuffling the cards

• Draw three cards

• Record your findings in a journal, and contemplate/ pathwork with card no.3 for the insight you need.

What to Ask the Cards (left to right)

1. What needs to be accepted at this time?

2. What helps to bring the courage you need to change?

3. What will guide me to know the difference?

If you have a tarot deck, play with the cards and be open to what they reveal in this spread for you. I have received some wonderful insight into my current situation, bringing me the opportunity to tune into the spirit of serenity I have been craving and to benefit from its magic.

Join the monthly LIVE workshops

Ian and I got back from a great weekend away with the Faerie Oddmothers in Norfolk.

It was good fun trading… sold a few books and did some oracle readings, finished off by playing at the ball in the evening and wild camping in our van. Just how we like it! Apart from the magic that being with faeries can bring, what made the gig a memorable one for us, was having our new drummer, Steve, join us on stage for the evening. He was a great addition to our sound and we’re looking forward to more gigs and festivals with him over the course of the year. Exciting times.

No sooner had we landed back home, we headed for the studio to record the latest podcast episode… featuring a Morrigans Path song from the next album in progress, and a Magic of Nature Oracle card reading for our listeners...

Hello Magical One

Ian and I had a brilliant day yesterday at Earth Spirit Events Spring Fayre here in Essex, our first event of the year. I had a great chat with Dawn Meadows, the founder of these events, on the podcast recently…

It was a magical day of trading - we had a great spot in front of the stage - meeting some lovely people who stopped by to browse at our creations, and we sold our wares - quite a few books, cd’s, oracle decks and hand creams which I’ve been making for years now… so it was a good day in the office.

As a Morrigans Path duo, we played too, which was a joy, as was catching up with our friends and fellow traders, some who we haven’t seen all winter! Being in-person at these events and festivals makes such a lovely change from sitting at a laptop and spending so much time online.

Having said that, I do enjoy the online stuff I do and it’s a great thing when you can hook up with others anywhere in the world whether it be to teach, interview or just chat to a friend. Technology is a marvelous way of making connections isn’t it?

But I do thrive on the contrast between the two worlds, especially as writing and spending so much time in an office can leave me feeling a bit isolated at times. I don’t think I will ever be a full-time cave dweller!

The Magic of Blackthorn

I don’t know about you but I am mesmerised by the Blackthorn currently emerging at the moment in all its buds and flowers and thornfilled glory… it’s totally magnificent as the first sighting of any colour in the wild around where we live. The hedgerows and sea walls are littered with its magic and I have been fascinated by the folklore of it which I’ve been delving into. To think that it was used as a natural form of barbed wire for centuries makes it easy to see how its magical properties have evolved over time as the witch’s-go-to for protection and fertility magic - used alongside Hawthorn to adorn bridal head dresses at Beltane.

Wealthy Witches Workshop

Aligning ourselves with the seasons and cycles of nature is something that teaches us so much about how we can work our magic… and for this reason my love of Blackthorn is the subject of this month’s Wealthy Witches live workshop on Protection and Boundaries.

I have been running this online membership based on my book, Riches for Witches, for the past two years with a wonderful group of students where we are developing our skills to create a magical life of abundance on every level. This includes health, relationships, creativity and spirituality as well as money! And do you know, I have learned so much myself as ‘teacher’ that it’s one of my favourite things I do from the office! We never stop learning do we?

I want to begin with a short story from an anthology, Words From The Cauldron - written by a collection of pagan authors from the Witch Lit Facebook group I was helping to run at the time.

Hello Magical One

It’s all going on at the moment… full on magical tidal power.

Can you feel it?

Ian and I ventured out, today after a period of hibernation. It’s been a good, hunkering down with lots of cavetime creating, and it’s not over yet. We still have a good couple of months of dodgy weather here in deepest, darkest Essex in the UK, which is just as well as I need the time to finish book 2 in my Grail Maiden Series, plus recording the companion album with the songs and chants from the first book… plenty of time yet (!)

Anyway, today was a day off and we went along to our local museum of power where a Wassail event was in full swing… morris dancing, singing and making merry. It was great to catch up with our friends - in particular Helen Conway and her horsey husband Hengesta who always steal the show, except when Mr Cundy sidles his way in for a jig.

Rain did not put people off when it came to the blessing of the apple trees and it was lovely to ground the magic and make our own offerings of healing to the young trees in the orchard. Nowadays, it’s quite something to witness and take part in such a wonderful old pagan custom passed down by our ancestors.

And for me, after spending the past few weeks in the online land of social media modernity, it was a welcome break. I must admit, factoring time off has been missing from my agenda lately, so it was a timely reminder not to forget!

The First Stirrings…

Tomorrow is another day off which I’m also glad about… I’ll be hosting Imbolc for my coven sisters here at the Cundy residence. Imbolc is one of my favourite festivals on the witch’s calendar as it marks the return of the Maiden goddess when she springs anew from the earth, ready to take those tentative steps forward and dare to declare her presence.

Have you seen any sign of her yet?

I spotted the first daffs at the museum of power gardens earlier which was exciting enough, but the sight of snowdrops in our garden here, seemed extra magical, especially as I don’t remember them being here last year. The simple pleasures!

Meanwhile, as I ponder on a plan for tomorrow’s celebration, the full moon looms over us all and shows off her magnificent presence… illuminating our dreams for the next lunar and solar cycle between now and Ostara. That’s a double bubble of magic in my book, and right on time for tuning into the fullness of nature’s powers to sow our dream seeds.

What are yours? What magic will you create with the gods and the cosmos?

Think on it, my friend, write it down and ground your intentions. Sow those dream seeds and aim for what you want. The power is always in your hands… work your magic as these big tides ebb and flow around us. Internalise it, shape it and cast it out to the stars and nurture it with all the love you can give it. Watch it grow.

Enjoy this magical time of year, whether the northern or southern hemisphere signifies Imbolc or Lammas… embrace the season and enjoy your celebrations whatever you choose to do, I am thinking of you and sending magic your way!

Thinking back to the first book I wrote, I realise how indebted I am to that story, even now. For a start it kept me safe - from a padded cell, behind bars and the divorce courts. Sounds a bit dramatic, I know, because it was. As any woman going through a mid-life crisis will tell you - the curse of the menopausal disease can be a living nightmare for some. It. Is. No. Joke.

But rallying to my rescue throughout those peri-menopausal times was my craft as a witch and a writer. I wrote a story based on my own life at the time and dug deep into the madness and the magic of it all. It was the best thing I did for myself and my family, sitting in our old caravan parked on the drive with my tarot cards and dogs.

So, this week, in my efforts to double down on my (organic) social media marketing, I am reminded like a nostalgic lover, that a writer never forgets their first book… In fact, that story still remains close to my heart in many ways. Not only did two more books follow in the series, but it became a Morrigans Path song and a music video, and is now the theme tune to The Witch Wavelength Podcast.

You could say I maximised its creativity on every level, albeit unconsciously at the time. But it just shows what you can do with a bit of imagination and many formats.

That story is a paperback, an ebook, a box-set and an audiobook plus a song. It’s had some great reviews over time, and I’d like to think it will never get old… which makes me more determined to talk about it still.

In fact, I would love to continue with the series… maybe in this Substack for you. A bit of magical light relief in a world of madness.

How’s your January going? Is it a dry one or a wet one? A high or low one? A go fast or slow one? Maybe it’s in the middle somewhere… that’s where I kind of am, anyway. Swinging from one end of the spectrum to the other with great gusto and abandonment. I’m blaming it on the planets, of course, these cosmic energies have us all over the damn place and rightfully so, there’s so much power around!

I’m not going to start getting all astrological on you, I have friends who are far better at that than I am because… well, they’re astrologers and I’m not. No, I’m just an ordinary hedgewitch caught up in storm that’s currently dragging me through the hedge backwards. And I shall rest my (basket) case right there.

Ian and I had a bit of fun in the studio last week, and recorded the first podcast episode of the year. If you want to know what we've done recently (not a lot), what we're doing now (after regaining consciousness from the festivities), and what the plans are for the coming year (creating more stuff), tune in and get on the wavelength with us!

My main intention for this year is to focus more on getting out there and sharing what I do… be ‘more visible’ I think is the word. This translates into being more focused and disciplined with consistency at the helm. All three I have been guilty of ‘not being’ to varying degrees in the past… and may not be again at some point in the future, but I’m going to have a good go at trying my best and seeing where it gets me and my writing. I have a feeling it will be a mad and magical year.

So I’m doubling down with the podcast, and we’re publishing bi-weekly instead of when we feel like it, and the same goes for this newsletter… I’ll be publishing once a week with every second week being a paid newsletter for you if you’d like to support my work-in-progress.

This will be my next nonfiction book - the third in The Witch Wavelength series, the contents of which I am currently mulling over in my mind… I have a few ideas, which are only titles and have been for some time now. If you’re a creator of any kind, you’ll understand that this just isn’t the way to carry on, if you want to get anything off the ground. You have to start the godamn thing.

So, I think this will be an exciting thing to do with my readers… where you will be on board and subject to behind the scenes stuff and all that happens in the creation of a book. I have no idea how long it will take but the committment of writing the next nonfiction book in public is hairy scary Mary for me. But…
David Bowie said: - If you feel safe in the area you’re working in , you’re not working in the right place - And if my hero can say that, it has to be true.

I’d love you to come along for the ride, and remember, you’ll be contributing to the writing of the book, as I welcome your feedback every step of the way!

One more thing that fits into the intention of getting out there more this year is that I have moved into TikTok territory… and although I was nervous to start with, I’m actually enjoying the filming and creating of posts more than I thought I would. So here’s hoping it will pay off and help my books and music become more accessible to others - which is what I dream about.

Hello Magical One

Now the festive season is behind us and 2026 stretches ahead, how are you feeling?

I’m excited about a lot of things… it feels like a magical year already! It looks like another busy summer coming up for Morrigans Path, The Witch Wavelength podcast and the world of writing and publishing.

In the office, I’m desperately trying to knuckle down and finish the first draft of book 2 in The Grail Maiden series. I always seem to lose focus after the hustle and bustle of Christmas, don’t you? I love the break from work, and the family time with Ian and the kids but jeez, it’s hard getting back on the horse again.

However, I’m looking forward to this Sunday evening, when I’ll be appearing on my friend and fellow author Katherine Genet’s Beaconage, to talk about Grail Maiden. As mentioned in yesterday’s post What does a Bad Witch do? I have the pleasure of chatting to many inspirational witches on The Witch Wavelength Podcast, and in honour of The Witch at this magical time, here is the final part of the Countdown to Samhain series.
