Our Quaker Values

The Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship directly informed Oakwood Friends School’s social, ethical, and intellectual values. In the Quaker tradition, we call on each member of the community to develop individual interpretations of these testimonies and actively strive to instill an ethic of service and encourage our students to think for themselves. All Oakwood students engage in community service throughout the year, culminating in senior year independently-designed service projects.

At Oakwood, teachers can be your friend and mentor at the same time. There’s a closeness. Teachers at Oakwood push you, motivate you, and support you.

Oakwood has a fantastic program that meets kids where they are and asks them to acknowledge their true selves. Perfect balance of providing support and asking students to take responsibility, in a culture with well-defined values. My child excelled and is entering college with a full semester of college credit under his belt due to the amazing opportunities afforded him.

My experience at Oakwood Friends School prepared me for college through its rigorous curriculum, which pushed me to think critically and engage deeply with what we studied. Oakwood helped me discover the issues I am most passionate about and gave me the tools to explore them fully. Through an independent study, I learned how to conduct in-depth research and present my findings with the dedicated guidance of my teacher. I also completed the Global Affairs Certificate Program, where I developed a proposal, gave an oral presentation, and produced a substantial paper on a global issue of my choosing. These academic experiences prepared me for the level of research and analysis my professors now expect.

Oakwood has been an outstanding choice for my 2 boys. One utilized the Learning Skills program and it has made all the difference for him. The support at Oakwood is unmatched. I could not imagine my children in any other learning environment. In addition - The college counseling program has been amazing...
