In June 2021, Tomar created a phishing website that mimicked Coinbase Pro

For those who don't know what that is:

A phishing site is a deceptive copy of a legitimate website, designed to trick users into providing their confidential information.

This way, Tomar could try to log into someone else's account, but that wasn't enough

Without the 2FA key, he couldn't access the account, even with the login and password

So, what did scammer do? Tomar found a way...

He used social engineering:

When users saw a login attempt, they called a fake Coinbase support service, which hacked the victims' computers using remote access software

Once Tomar obtained the tokens, he quickly mixed the funds and converted them to cash

This is how Tomar Chirag stole $37,000,000 from ordinary people.

But...

30-year-old Tomar Chirag was arrested at Atlanta Airport on December 20, 2023

He confessed to the crimes, and now faces a maximum prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of $250,000

Yes, the scammer was caught, but it's unlikely that any users will get their money back

That really sucks!

They are inexperienced newcomers who become disillusioned with the market and losing their money

Transfer your funds to wallets like MetaMask or Trust Wallet

The first thing to do with a large sum of money is shut up!

It's best not to carry them with you, but if you must, use an additional notebook with fake passwords

Even though it faces notable inflation, folks continue to acquire it because it's essential for daily life.

In general, four factors drive demand for tokens:

1. Community Support

As observed in recent cycles, a strong community can significantly drive demand. Memecoins, for instance, have surged in value solely due to community.

2. Store of Value

Many people purchase cryptocurrencies to store their wealth, much like investing into digital gold. Bitcoin is a prime example of this.

3. Utility of a Token

Tokens that offer utility tend to attract buyers. A straightforward example is staking, where holding a token provides specific benefits.

4. Value Generation

People seek tokens that offer real value. Staking allows users to lock their tokens and earn rewards at regular intervals, which also benefits the network. Additionally, holding tokens can lead to rewards, airdrops, and other incentives from projects, benefiting all parties involved.

Additionally, it's crucial to understand who is holding the asset, regardless of high demand.

Is it a strong community or are there dumpers?

This can be challenging to determine, because you need to engage with the project's community and analyze it carefully.

❍ Jimmy was only unmasked by the US federal authorities in November 2021 and sentenced to one year in prison

6/➫ No more than a simple IT enthusiast who joined the BTC community in 2009, he noticed a bug in the Silk Road payout system

❍ Using it, he was able to make many withdrawals

❍ Overall, he stole 50,000 BTC, initially splitting the loot between 11 different crypto wallets

7/➫ In the first years after the hack and the shutdown of Silk Road, he did not use the stolen funds and then began moving them around through small txs and by taking steps to protect his identity

❍ He used Bitcoin mixers, which is why he couldn't be traced for 9 years

8/➫ Also, in 2017, Bitcoin's fork protocol, Bitcoin Cash, gave all BTC holders an equivalent amount in BCH

What is Monero (XMR)?

Monero, symbolized as XMR, was created in 2014 as a fork of the Bytecoin cryptocurrency. It is built on the principles of privacy, security, and decentralization. 1/➮ Let's start with some basics: Seed Phrase

✧ As soon as you create your wallet, you will be given a seed phrase.

✧ You must write down this seed phrase and under no circumstances give it to anyone.

Otherwise, all your funds will be lost.

2/➮ Also, do not store seed phrases in the digital world.

✧ Why?

- It can leak and become compromised / your PC can be hacked.

✧ Write them down on 2-3 pieces of paper and keep them safe

✧ Make sure to not lose them cause you lose seed phrase = lose wallet

3/➮ Main things that u don't need to do with ur wallet:

✧ Do not connect to random sites if you are not sure about them, and always check what tx do u sign, otherwise u could be drained

✧ Wherever you are sending money, always make a test transaction.

✧ Send a small amount to the required address and check that everything has arrived where it needs to, and then send the rest.

✧ I have already avoided losing my funds this way more than once.

6/➮ Never keep all funds in one exchange/wallet, etc.

✧ A wallet can be lost or drained.

✧ An exchange might just freeze your funds/be FTX

✧ So, Distribute your money to different places,

✧ Once you start to earn good money, you must have a Hardware wallet

✧ These are physical devices that hold your private keys (Ledger/Safepal/Trezor)

I believe it's a must-have for everyone, please do not neglect this.

However, it's not a cure-all, as you still need to watch over your seed phrase and be mindful of what you're signing.

11/➮ Comments under influencers'/projects' posts ( most popular method rn):

✧ Fake accs drop about free giveaways/token sales and similar things under an influencer's post, using their avatar and name

✧ Always check the handle and mutual followers to recognize these scams.

✧ Crypto scammers impersonate officials from government, law enforcement, or companies like Amazon to falsely claim your assets are frozen.

✧ They aim to deceive you into paying crypto to resolve fake issues.

✧ Investment scam where a fake "investment manager" offers a too-good-to-be-true chance, urging you to invest crypto fast

✧ Scammers use legitimate-looking sites and complex jargon to deceive

✧ Often, they block withdrawals unless you pay a huge fee.

15/➮ Knowing the basic rules I mentioned and the scam variants, you've already greatly reduced the chance of losing your funds.
