NEW ARTWORK REVEAL and the threat that is the DARK KONQUESTORS!

Hey all! As we enter into the FINAL THREE DAYS of the TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS 1-3 on Kickstarter (ends Friday June 26th at 5pm EDT) (CHECK OUT AND JOIN THE CAMPAIGN HERE), we wanted to reveal a full, BRAND NEW PAGE of art from the issue, and give a deeper look into the threat that is the DARK KONQUESTORS, and their spirit sucking accomplices: The SOUL RIPPERS. We’ll also share with you a podcast / livestream with did with COMICS BODEGA / The FUNKY FRESH PODCAST, and more.

But for now, it’s time to take a deep dive into the Dark Konquestors and the Soul Rippers, and explain why TATSUMI is so hell-bent on destroying them!

For those of you that joined us during TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS (or who may’ve never read any of our comics / graphic novels at all), you may not truly grasp the carnage that this rogue band has inflicted upon the landscape. For those that started with I AM QIDO, you’ve seen the destruction that they’ve caused and the unrelenting havoc that they’re capable of.

WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ‘DK’ and the ‘SR’?

In short: Their relationship is one of symbiosis. One cannot exist without the other.

To further explain, let’s first think about how a vampire turns one into their kind. They have an insatiable desire for blood, and they can either feed on a human, OR convert them. This is similar to how zombies behave in modern fiction: They can bite and turn someone into a zombie, OR feed on them with reckless abandon.

This is the same type of behavior the DK and SR have, but it’s split into two parts. The DK are considered ‘post-human’ entities, and their entire existence is looking for food to consume. That food is the souls of living creatures. Unfortunately for the DK, they cannot directly feed on their human prey, and this is where the Soul Rippers come in.

Here’s an excerpt from I AM QIDO to help better explain:

Soul Rippers, likewise, can only survive by feeding on souls (hence the name the ‘Soul Rippers’). They can either suck the soul from a victim (using their mouth) OR convert one into a Dark Konquestor (by using their neck tentacles).

But here is the most important part in their relationship: When a Soul Ripper extracts the life force from a living entity, it also extracts elements that are poisonous to it. Those very same elements are exactly what the Dark Konquestors need to survive.

Without the ability to discharge that ‘poison’ into a Dark Konquestor, the Soul Ripper will perish. Likewise, if a DK doesn’t have a Soul Ripper there to separate out the ethereal matter that they need, they also will cease existing. So, both groups MUST have the others to be able to continue their onslaught.

I AM QIDO, The YAMARAN EMPIRE, and its EVISCERATION

TATSUMI was an honored member, and an Onna-Bugeisha (female warrior) within the YAMARAN EMPIRE. When the DK and SR steamrolled through their lands, not only was destruction left in their wake, but the whole of the citizenry was either killed, consumed, or converted. Somehow, Tatsumi was able to narrowly escape with her life, and her conquest for retribution and revenge started there. She wants to eliminate this otherworldly horde because of what they did to her Empire, and she also wants to stop them before more unsuspecting victims have to endure their onslaught.

NEW ART: FINALLY!

We felt it was important to share the above so you could truly understand just how dire the situation is. Yes, Tatsumi has aligned with the rogue band of pirates. Yes, there is some lighthearted, swashbuckling fun, but TATSUMI’s ultimate goal is never far from her mind. It dominates her every thought and every action.

With that being said, here’s a BRAND NEW PAGE from TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #1-3 showing what the DK and SR are up to, including Dark Miyu, while Tatsumi is at the Port of Alabassus trying to assemble a force to combat them:

The campaign for TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #1-3 ends on KICKSTARTER in just ONE WEEK (Friday June 26th at 5pm EDT) (CHECK OUT AND JOIN THE CAMPAIGN HERE), and it looks like PEDRO and NAPOLEON have it figured out. If you’ve already taken this campaign off some sweet jumps and backed it, awesome! If not, now’s your chance!

At present, we’re around $450 away from the next stretch goal, where every physical backer will get an additional trading card (Portmaster Silas Silvertooth) added to the haul of swag!

Let's talk WOOD COVERS (with a DRAGONSCALE GREEN reveal!)

With just EIGHT DAYS LEFT (ends June 26th) in our TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #1-3 on KICKSTARTER (CHECK OUT AND JOIN THE CAMPAIGN HERE), it’s time to reveal the FOURTH WOOD COVER OPTION for this campaign: DRAGONSCALE GREEN!

So why are there FOUR options this time instead of three? Because every option was just so cool that we couldn’t eliminate any of them. Let’s break down what they are:

PURPLE/BLACK METALLIC: This is a color changing paint that is reflective as purple and black depending on the lighting!

GOLD (Reverse Engraved): For this one, the entire board is painted GOLD, and then instead of lasering INTO the wood, everything around the design is lasered out, so the gold elements sit higher than the rest of the design!

UNFINISHED WOOD: Exactly as is said, no paint or stain, just wood with the lasered design

DRAGONSCALE GREEN (METALLIC): This is ALSO a metallic paint that sometimes reflects as green or gold.

But these descriptions don’t do these covers justice, so we had to get some video for you of the metallics. check it out!

Stellar weekend behind us, now what lies ahead?

What a weekend that just passed. We have a lot to say about GRAY GHOST COMICS in Tifton, GA, we’ll update you on all the stretch goals that have been achieved so far for TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #1-3 on KICKSTARTER (CHECK OUT AND JOIN THE CAMPAIGN THE IT HERE), some LIVESTREAM info, and more!

GRAY GHOST COMICS - TIFTON GA RECAP!

We knew TIFTON, GA was not gonna take getting called out by us lightly (when we did our wrestling style promo on signed eve - see below), but we did not expect you all to represent in the way that you did. Incredible signing. Incredible day. You all PROVED why Andrew Elder and Scott Beasley are the tag team champions of the comics world in this area, with an undeniable and stoppable fanbase.

Humbled and appreciative and can’t wait for the next trip to Gray Ghost Comics!

Wow! What a DAY ONE for TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #1-3 on KICKSTARTER! Supporters and backers made day one the HIGHEST PLEDGED DAY ONE in our history. We are humbled and can’t thank you enough for getting things started off hot. As with any campaign, day one is only a singular day. We need to keep that momentum going and see what other records might be able to be set as well!

TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #3 launches on KICKSTARTER at 11am EST on TUESDAY June 9th (that’s tomorrow!) You’d think after all the insane reveals from last week, that well would’ve run dry… well not so fast my friend. There’s still a LOT of great stuff to share TODAY, on LAUNCH EVE! We’re psyched about this video, and we hope you dig it as well! It’s designed so that you can enjoy it as a seasoned fan, or someone that’s brand new to the title!

Those familiar with INSYMMETRY CREATIONS know that we have a metal music side that integrates in with our comics. We’ve released two albums thus far that expanded the HEIRS OF ISILDUR and TALES FROM NOCTURNIA universes.

After the second album, we made a decision that songs would be written and utilized as needed, and once there were enough assembled, we’d finish those off and create a third album. This cover depicts Tatsumi in her Yamaran Empire (pre-invasion) days, in front of a majestic, glowing sea serpent.

Our original plan was to have a rotating ‘guest cover artist’ spot with every issue. Even with Renan doing the TAVERN BRAWL cover for issue #2 (featuring THE DREAD CREW OF ODDWOOD) we just couldn’t pass this one up. We’re happy to have Renan BACK on board for issue #3!

This leaves just one (standard) cover left to be revealed for this issue (Cover A), and trust us, it’s gonna change the game AND vibe for this issue completely when we do! (HINT: That reveal is TOMORROW!)

SHIRT REVEAL: THE GOLDEN DRAGON

We know you love DRAGONS and SEA SERPENTS, just like those at the Port of Alabassus. You saw that it was even the symbol of the SIDE QUEST TAVERN in issue #2.

News Release: EFREN RAMIREZ (Pedro from NAPOLEON DYNAMITE) joins the crew of the TATSUMI: The Serpent Mistress

TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS, the swashbuckling pirate / martial arts comic series from the creative minds at Insymmetry Creations (Matt Knowles and Steph Cannon), has added an unexpected member to their crew for Issue #3: EFREN RAMIREZ, who’s most known for his iconic role as PEDRO in NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. This third installment of their high-seas adventure sets sail on KICKSTARTER on June 9th, 2026 (you can follow it here: www.tinyurl.com/tatsumi3).

“We became friends at Geek’d Con 2024, and have kept tabs on each other’s creative journeys ever since,” said Matt Knowles, co-creator and lead writer of Tatsumi. “When Efren said to us ‘it’d be cool to become a character in your comics someday’ we got right to plotting and planning. Why not?”

“Being a fan of Napoleon Dynamite, it’s been a fun and unexpected experience hitting it off with Efren,” said Steph Cannon, co-creator and editor on the series. “Within a short time, an organic and genuine way to fit him into our storyline came to fruition. Since then, we’ve gotten to see how passionate and enthusiastic of a creator he is, even beyond his famous role of Pedro. It’s an honor to have him partake in our crazy little pirate story.”

When asked for his thoughts of seeing himself in comic form, Efren had this to say: “Comic books are the portals to creativity and imagination, where illustration and storytelling meets adventure. I’m excited to partake in this journey in the world of the Jolly Roger! YOUR curiosity awaits! All of your wildest pirate dreams are about to come true! #VoteForPedro”

Knowles wouldn’t divulge what role they’d created for Efren, only saying “We spent a lot of time developing his character, taking into consideration many of the thoughts and desires that he’d contributed, alongside our own plot path for the series. All we’ll say about his character is that, while it’s secondary in nature, it’s still impactful on the overall story. Just know that issue three will not be the only time you’ll see his illustrated alter-ego.”

Tatsumi: The Serpent Mistress is about the last remaining daughter of the fallen YAMARAN EMPIRE who gets mixed up with a band of pirates (the Crew of the Sidestalker). She’s pursuing a path of retribution and revenge against the evil horde that left her homeland as nothing more than a trail of embers, ash, and corpses: The post-human Dark Konquestors, and their vampire-like, spirit sucking accomplices: The Soul Rippers.

Issue #3 will launch on Kickstarter on Tuesday June 9th, and run through Friday June 26th, with a campaign that’ll have multiple variant covers (including foil, metal, and wood), collectibles, socks, shirts, poker chips, limited edition foil trading cards, and even custom leatherwork. There will be catch-up tiers for those of you hearing about this title for the first time.

The series, described as Pirates of the Caribbean and the Live Action One Piece meeting your favorite martial arts heroine, is illustrated by Alessandro Ventura and colored by Alan Emmanuel. This issue has variant covers from Chess & Gwen, and Renan Shody.

Issue #2 successfully funded earlier this year, and included a guest appearance from the pirate band THE DREAD CREW OF ODDWOOD, out of San Diego, CA.

Ramirez is currently on an extended appearance run celebrating the 20th anniversary of NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, many times alongside Jon Heder (Napoleon), Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) and others. Since his most iconic role, he’s also been in EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, CRANK/ CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE, and most recently, alongside DANNY TREJO in SEVEN CEMETERIES. He also was in Season 2 of EASTBOUND AND DOWN, is a DJ, as well as a part owner of a minor league baseball team.

Heyooooo! We’ve gone ahead and revealed a second variant cover for TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #3 on the pre-launch page, and we want you all to see it as well. First however, we want to make sure to give one last push for the RINGO AWARDS NOMINATIONS that close tomorrow 5.28.26. It’s the FINAL DAY for RINGO NOMINATIONS, and WE need YOUR help!

For the past TWO MONTHS you’ve seen us posting about the RINGO AWARDS and nominations for it. We’re sure some of you are like ‘What the heck are the Ringos?’ They’re one of the largest awards events in independent comics, and the largest on the East Coast of the USA.

We know others of you are probably like ‘Why do the Ringos matter to you? Aren’t all awards shows just a popularity contest?’ You’re absolutely correct. We know that, but getting something you’ve done be recognized is big, simply because it gets what you’ve spent all that time, money, and effort on into the conversation amongst others that are also worthy. We’d also LOVE to see recognition for those that worked hard for us.

This is where we need YOUR help. We can’t do it alone. If you want to see anything we do get into the conversation, YOU need to NOMINATE us HERE.

Will any of our titles or creators make the final cut? Ya never know.

SHOULD any of ours make the final cut? Humbly, of course I’ll say yes.

In 2025, we feel like we produced our top slate of releases, from completing the most recent arc for our flagship title Heirs of Isildur, to launching a brand new series that’s getting a lot of good commentary in TATSUMI: The Serpent Mistress, to collecting everything for our NOW FULLY INDEPENDENT title Misfitz Clubhouse (a giant huzzah to that), we feel like what was put out can stand alongside all the other independent releases out there.

Notice I didn’t say ‘better’ above, because there are TONS of other worthy releases out there, and to whomever makes the final cut, kudos to you and best of luck. It’s been a fun couple of months promoting our titles alongside of all of you, so in that, we’ve already won, but it surely would be nice to ‘make the dance’ for at least one of the line items below.

For those that haven’t seen the graphic before, here’s what we’ve put forward as our list of considerations for 2026 (based on 2025 releases):

SECOND VARIANT COVER FOR ‘TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #3’ IS REVEALED: the ‘GOLDEN DRAGON’ FOIL!

We’re super stoked to unveil the next cover for this campaign. You’ve already seen Chess & Gwen’s ‘READY FOR BATTLE’ cover - this is based on the shield that’s present on that one.

And if you saw our SOUL RIPPER reverse foil for Issue #2, it’ll be done the same way (with the main body of the shield knocked out so the foil can show through.)

This was revealed last night on our pre-launch campaign page, so if you want to make sure you’re getting ALL the reveals as soon as they happen, make sure you follow the page - that’s launching in less than TWO WEEKS! With a massive weekend behind us (that included an ANTHOLOGY release, MANDEL FAN FEST, and a GB Leatherworks meet up) it’s time to look forward with some MASSIVE news ahead (TATSUMI #3 has a LAUNCH date, and it’s first cover release, a new LIVE APPEARANCE, and a NEW MOVIE REVIEW)! TATSUMI: THE SERPENT MISTRESS #3 LAUNCH DATE is JUNE 9th + ARE YOU ‘READY FOR BATTLE’ WITH THIS NEW CHESS & GWEN COVER?!

The launch of Tatsumi: The Serpent Mistress #3 is right around the corner - JUNE 9th to be exact! Our FIRST REVEAL is Chess & Gwen’s ‘READY FOR BATTLE’ cover! Take a look!

The cover features TATSUMI encircled by many who want to take part in the battle versus the Dark Konquestors and Soul Rippers (including Warwick Settlebarrow, Marley, Lydia Snakearrow, Ulysses, and the Runehammyr Twins), but is everything as it seems?

We have SO MANY incredible reveals for this campaign. Legit, there are so many that we could possibly do one a day every day until the launch. This just might be the most insane campaigns we’ve ever run! And let’s not sleep on what it says in that burst on the campaign graphic: “With A Celebrity Guest Appearance to be announced soon!”

INSANE WEEKEND WRAP: MANDEL WEST PALM SHOW + STORAGE HORRORS IS IN HAND + a GB LEATHERWORKS MEET UP!

The number of things that took place between Friday and Saturday for #TeamINSYM would make your head spin… it definitely made ours do just that. To recap:

We got the finished ‘READY FOR BATTLE’ cover art in
We received the box of STORAGE HORRORS Anthologies that includes our story ‘Out of This World’ with art by Ana-Maria Sandu.
Had a meetup with Martin Irish from GB Leatherworks. Got a TON of stock refreshed (including keychains and a bunch of new Heirs / DnD style dice bags, PLUS some of the wildest leatherwork we’ve ever done, for TATSUMI #3 woohooo)
Lastly, #TeamINSYM’s Matt travelled down to West Palm Beach to attend Mandel Fanfest. Got to hang out with friends like Martin Pierro, Andrea Molinari, Heidi Hess and more… plus got to meet a bunch of great people from that area! A fun time indeed! Matt even got to make a quick appearance in this recap video by the City of West Palm Beach!

NEW APPEARANCE ANNOUNCEMENT: GRAY GHOST COMICS - TIFTON, GA 6.13.26!

#TeamINSYM’s Matt will be headed back to Gray Ghost Comics in TIFTON, GA on June 13th! This time however, Steph Cannon will also be on board for her FIRST EVER comic store signing in the state of Georgia!

This will be a part of our release events for TATSUMI: The Serpent Mistress #2. We know that you Tiftonites and GrayGhostians are all about the cool collectibles so we’re gonna make sure that there’s a good assortment of those available. We can’t wait to come bring the craziness!
