1. If we are to build a new Black revolutionary protest movement, we must ask ourselves, how we can hurt this Capitalist system, and how have we hurt it in the past when we have led social movements against some aspect of our oppression.

The Drink

They received an email with instructions on how to retrieve a free THC drink and an upgraded membership to a place they’d never been to. The Travel Agency, they called themselves, insinuating their ability to coordinate travels through your mind, enabled by consuming a drug that grows from the ground. Once illegal, now the drug is available in all forms of ingestion, users’ choice. The candy for those whose lungs have been weakened by long COVID-19 or those who want to avoid coughing up a lung even if the reward is the separation from dystopia.

They asked their friend across the table if they’d be interested in coming. She declined. Understandable given she is consumed with a disease that forces her to question her value in a society that only values healthy bodies. They both cried throughout the dinner. When they first met each other, they came to this restaurant happy, young, healthy, and hopeful.

“Remember when we snuck the bottle of tequila in here before COVID?” they asked at some point between the tears.

“Yes, after waiting for an hour for nachos!”

They laughed a nostalgic laugh, hoping they could conjure the times when they roamed around the city, weaving through unlimited events, looking forward to a life filled with whatever our society defines as success. When the laughter faded, they looked at each other comforting each other through the curves that capitalism and living long enough to understand how everything works throws at you.

They hadn’t been successful in the way they were told they should be. They, moving in and out of unemployment. Her tolerating a job for insurance to pay for treatment because the state will dispose of bodies that cannot serve capital.

They wrapped their arms around each other as they walked to the train. They said we’ll talk more. She went uptown, they went downtown to receive their free THC drink.

They walked into the Travel Agency excited to receive the elixir that would crowd out all the painful thoughts with nothing. They passed their ID to a bouncer stationed at the store’s opening, a reminder the state is always watching. The bouncer instructed them to walk to the register, show the email and whisper the password mentioned in the email. They waited in line looking around contemplating whether they’d been to this dispensary before. Wondering whether this was really their life. Traveling from dinner to get free drugs.

The cashier asked them for their email. They asked if this email would be given to the government to track their drug usage. The cashier uttered a self assured no. To have so much confidence to hide from the surveillance state, they wish they had that. They also wish they could be the type of person who could walk around not letting the knowledge of living in an autocracy built on human sacrifices permeate through their every pore. Making it onerous to breathe.

The cashier asked what flavor of THC drink they wanted, they asked what the cashier recommended, the cashier recommended a lemon drink because it’s not too sweet. They said yes to the drink. The cashier disappeared to the back and reappeared with the suggested drink. They took the drink and walked out of the store, immediately opened it, gulped down as much as was possible in one swig.

They hoped the drink would erase the pain of living in the world where loneliness is the only constant other than consumerism. Everything tells you to buy something so you can fill the hole created by being separated from other humans. They drank the drink, it submerged them in a protective layer where the pain was ameliorated by a mind floating into nothingness.

Feelings about No Other Choice - there are spoilers

We have no other choice but to be complicit in each other’s murder and torture each other, say the people who gain from us murdering and torturing each other. We have no other choice but to step over each others’ bodies so we can go to a building to rent our bodies and sell parts of ourselves to institutions that feed us poison. Poison of the body, poison of the soul. Poison that constantly whispers into our spirits, you have no other choice but to live off of your neighbors’ blood. The only choice available to you is to proceed with business as usual and if you dare to choose choices that are not allowed, you will be the one whose blood the rest of those who don’t have a choice feed off of.

To work for nothing. To destroy your brain cells vomiting out vapid solutions to vapid problems while the world burns. That is the only choice you have.

I’ve been writing less because I have a fulltime job. Taxes for living need to paid and the only way to acquire your monetary ration is to rent yourself. I told my friend that it’s been difficult writing and creating because of my job and she reminded me that’s the point. The point of vapid work that serves capital is to empty your insides so you have nothing left to fight off the poison. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I get out of this situation, how we get out of this situation. The reality is that there is no individual liberation, that’s privilege. The struggle for individual liberation is not just onerous and impossible, it is also lonely. The only freedom is through the collective.

I was watching No Other Choice with my husband and the lead, Man-su, isolated himself from his family and humanity to achieve individual freedom. Man-su loses his job at a paper mill and resorts to killing off his competition so he can get a job at another paper mill. No Other Choice is very literal in the sense that it shows us: Hey you all are literally killing each other and destroying the planet so you can be “free”. I put the free in quotes because freedom has been framed as consumption and ownership instead of community and love. It’s absolutely absurd.

As Man-su kills off his competition, he is lonely, separated from his family. His wife offers to help, her ideas don’t include murdering the competition so he dismisses her. Throughout his war for his family, he loses his family. I will not offer any spoilers but his relationship with his family is poisoned by his belief that only he can save himself.

This is what happens when we seek individual liberation. We are lonely, isolated. Worse off, the things we seek are not liberation, they are further entrenchment in a system that commodifies our bodies to murder each other and destroy the planet. Man-Su is killing for a job that would further destroy forests.

I think about my job in that way. Not in the sense that I’m going around murdering my competition. Wouldn’t it be funny if I got on here and talked about murdering people, I mean the president does it so why shouldn’t I? However I think of my job as being murdering adjacent in the sense that what I do is complicit to the maintenance of a system that literally murders people. Yes, I’m only selling people things they don’t need. I’m not directly selling those things but I’m supporting the people who do it. No, it’s not for an organization that’s on the BDS list or is being boycotted by anyone. In fact, when I tell people what it is, they say oh, that’s not the worst place to work, at least they are not evil.

However, selling people things they don’t need, things that were made by slave labor because what isn’t? Isn’t that complicity? Read the Anti-Capitalist Book of Fashion; there is no ethical fashion because we live in an unethical world. Everything we buy is drenched in blood. I don’t want to be complicit, I want to get high, cook with my friends, and fight the police...lol I’m a comedian remember that, FBI. However, it has come time where I need to get a job. To get a job, any job in this society that serves capital is to feed the system that oppresses us. To consume anything is to support a system that oppresses us. It’s a self reinforcing loop.

One way I can think of to break a self reinforcing loop is to add new variables or weaken the variables that reinforce the loop. Capitalism wants us isolated, fighting for ourselves instead of each other. The only way we can break this loop is to fight for each other. So how do I get out of this situation? My job. It’s by creating moments in the dystopia where community and care are the only priority. I need to live and pay for my living but I hope through focusing on collective healing I can be supported and support my community so we can all be free of microsoft teams.

A poem - Sorry I lost you

I keep trying to find you
I hear you crying
I hear you calling my name but I can’t locate you
I lost you when I stopped listening
You were lost when you sensed your feelings and thoughts were repelled by the need of survival
The need to stay safe

You felt safe
You wanted safety
But after awhile the safety you thought you had acquired was the refusal of your existence
A refusal to acknowledge that not everything can be forgotten
For your parts to be put up for sale on the boards of LinkedIn
Another face
Another commodity
Pivot tables
Excel worksheets
Vlookups that will never be able to find all your thoughts that used to be on the surface
But are now so deeply hidden because they weren’t allowed to express themselves outside of the marketplace

You do everything for a roof and now you cry for the children of El Fasher and Gaza while your fingers are covered in their blood
You scream you have no other choice because you have a litany of choices but all of those choices require you to listen to the parts of yourself that are not for sale
The parts of you that know to love and to care is the willingness to sacrifice everything for freedom
To love and to care is to listen to the parts of you that cannot be sold in the market place
The parts of you that are screaming and crying but you cannot find them because finding them means getting rid of the illusion of freedom and understanding freedom cannot be bought it can only be grasped through unfaltering love and care

I think if I keep looking for you I’ll find you hidden in the forests where my spirit will remember before the illusion of development covered in blood destruction and violence there was a time where my spirit could wade in the lake feeling the cold water wash away all the complications of being a human with so many thoughts

News that made me say whiteness is a hell of a drug

After Renée Nicole Good was murdered by ICE I saw a post from Super Familia, a pro liberation Instagram account stating, “Renée Nicole Good wasn’t the first killed by ICE. The post lists 32 people who ‘died in ICE’ custody, i.e., killed by the state.”

The post used the attention of the murder of a queer white woman to mention the other murders that were done in silence. Silence to the masses; for those who knew and loved these people, the murders were as loud as grief can be. Murders that weren’t publicly named because they happened in the shadows to people who the state has labeled as disposable. People who the state justifies their murders by claiming that in order for whiteness to exist these people must sacrificed. Afterall, the existence of ICE is about protecting whiteness. It’s through the execution of violence against people who are not deemed white that whiteness is reinforced. How the United States of America, a white settler colony, persists.

Whiteness is a privilege created by the state to establish a class of people who benefit from the extermination and exploitation of other people under the understanding that white people will protect the state. Trump is reminding white people that they are privileged. They don’t have to worry about ICE dragging them out of their schools or their homes. ICE will go to Minnesota and attack the Black and brown people who Trump has referred to as garbage simply because they are Black and from a country constantly victimized by US imperialism. How deeply dark must your insides be to dare call people who ran away from home because of your country’s imperialism to live on land built on anti-blackness garbage? This is whiteness, aggressor and victim. The United States of America is the definition of whiteness as it is upheld by whiteness. You go around breaking into people’s homes, stealing their shit, and when they have the nerve to escape the nightmare you’ve orchestrated and claim what you’ve stolen, they are the monsters!

Whiteness shields white people from the violence that has to be perpetrated in order for whiteness to exist. Whiteness requires violence to exist because in a system built on human sacrifices to benefit a few, there must be people willing to oversee those whose bodies are targeted for sacrifice. Those overseers get privileges; when they see those privileges eroded by the possibility of anyone who is deemed not white having access to “white” privileges, they will do everything they can to reinforce the hierarchy. If they see that their whiteness doesn’t afford them privilege, they will do everything they can do to reinforce the hierarchy.

That’s why Trump said “civil rights protections” has led to white people being treated very badly. Because white people being treated very badly means people who are not white are getting access to things only white people should have access to. White people being treated badly also means white people are suffering in ways that are only meant for people who are not white to suffer. Trump specifically mentions that some white people are not able to go to college because Black people are taking their spots away.

Why is it important for people to go to college? So that, allegedly, they can have better lives. There are no questions asked about why going to college should mean you have a better life than others. Why can’t we just all live good lives because there is enough for everyone? Why can’t college be simply about learning and not social climbing? Or why can’t college just be about getting wrecked and making bad decisions?

Nonetheless, my point here is Trump is trying to tell white people that the reasons why they don’t have nice things anymore is because Black people have some things. Forget the fact that every single aspect of this hellhole is so anti-Black that Black people can’t even go into a Starbucks without getting arrested. Fuck Starbucks. Don’t drink their fucking genocidal, anti-worker coffee, but I think you get my point. Of course, Jeff Bezos tried to dismantle a bridge so his superyacht could pass, but no, it’s the Black child getting a college degree, that’s what is ruining your life.

And because whiteness is a hell of a drug, white people voted for Trump because they wanted to see the privileges of whiteness enforced. Instead of waking up in the morning and thinking, oh, maybe the reason why I can’t pay my bills is because Elon Musk is a welfare king, they think, yes, let’s build more internment camps so my whiteness can mean something. If I can’t get a house for five dollars while Black people are actively locked out of homeownership, please attack Black and Brown people in the streets. Sure, I won’t be able to afford eggs, but I’ll go to bed well knowing someone was harmed because they weren’t white.

Trump is doing this for white people. It’s not just Trump, it’s the United States of America. The state wants to remind white people that whiteness still has value so they don’t question a system that is fundamentally stealing all their lives away. That is why when white people like Renée Nicole Good and Alex Pretti stand in the way of the state reinforcing whiteness, they are murdered. To fight against the state and demand liberation for all is to give up whiteness. It’s to say I’m no longer willing to reinforce a status that affords wealth and privilege for the few who oppress all of us.

Renée and Alex were victims of state violence and let’s not forget all the other victims of state violence simply because they are the intended target of state violence.

News that made me remind you that kidnappers lie

The Transport Security Administration aka the TSA aka the people who threw away all my Model United Nations’ former friend’s lip glosses in college are sharing all passengers’ names with ICE. Of course one fascist arm of the state is working with the other fascist arm to kidnap people who have been labeled as criminals. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Human movement is not a crime, borders are a crime!

Nonetheless, it would be shocking if the TSA refused to share passenger information with ICE. Can you imagine the TSA saying oh we are okay with violating people’s personal privacy but we draw the line at colluding in human trafficking? You can’t because ultimately the TSA are cops and cops are going to cop.

The ire about the partnership with the TSA and ICE is because it’s “unprecedented and was kept secret”. I’m sorry, when was the last time a kidnapper announced their plans for kidnapping? The whole purpose of a kidnapping is to catch the victim by surprise. That’s why civilians who are thwarting ICE blow whistles when they see ICE agents, to warn their neighbors that the monsters are coming. Of course the department of homeland insecurity did not announce to the people who they plan to abduct about their forthcoming abduction. That would be like beauty companies letting you know they are destroying your self-esteem so you can spend an endless amount of income buying pore reducing toner.

Who said there was a right-sized pore?

Who said there was such a thing as an illegal human?

The same power structure that seeks to maintain power and wealth through extraction and manipulation. Corporations and the state lie to maintain a white supremacist structure that benefits five ugly white men! So can we please stop acting shocked that the United States of America’s government lies? Acting shocked that a state built on kidnapping Black people for forced labor is capable of using all its evil tentacles to snatch predominantly Black and Brown people from the airport is maintaining the notion that the state serves any other purpose other than a tool of brutality.

I wish more media people would say, we found out ICE is working with the TSA. Yes it’s vile but you shouldn’t be surprised and you should assume that all parts of the government are working to maintain this fascist order. They should also state, yes it’s terrible your coworkers keep competing with each other for a middle management position instead of starting an office rebellion and toppling the company. You shouldn’t be surprised because most of us have been brainwashed to seek individual wealth over collective liberation.

Of course it’s terrifying to accept that the institutions you’ve been bamboozled into believing are for you are actually here to maintain white supremacy, imperialism, and all the evil things that happen to you every day. However, I think it’s also freeing because then you aren’t expecting the state that oppresses you to save you. The constant question of why is the government doing this can be replaced with the understanding, of course the government is doing this which is why we must stop it. Maybe then people can stop trying to be middle managers to sell anal bleaching cream and instead build solidarity to topple a structure that oppresses us all and convinces us we need to bleach our butts.

News that made me take a break from getting ripped!

I was racking weights for Romanian deadlifts when I got notification from a friend telling me “NYC blocked ICE we can win!” with a link to the news. I’m trying to get jacked but my hamstrings could wait. I opened the link, got excited, then immediately searched for videos, I love seeing footage of resistance. Videos from New York Ice Watch showed protestors blocking a parking garage to prevent ICE agents from attacking the city, it was beautiful. I love ICE tasting their own medicine. Though being trapped somewhere for hours is not nearly as close as the amount of anguish they’ve brought to thousands of people.

Nonetheless, the New Yorkers trapped ICE in a garage forcing them to call their fellow gang members, the NYPD, to remove protestors. Technically NYPD doesn’t work with ICE and technically chocolate doesn’t have calories when I’m sad. NYPD arrived ready to start a riot as they usually do. They pepper sprayed protestors, pepper sprayed each other, again love when these villains harm each other. They arrested people.

However, that doesn’t change the fact that New Yorkers prevented ICE from raiding Canal Street, further traumatizing a group of people who are selling items to make a living. Make a living is such a dark dystopian phrase fitting for this dystopian hellscape that criminalizes the existence of humanity.

BUT we won!!! ICE was forced to retreat to New Jersey, which is where Eric Adams should be banished to. Sorry not sorry New Jersey. I wasn’t there but I say we won because this is an example of what happens when we the community unifies to do what needs to be done.

I think about that phrase a lot, what needs to be done. What needs to be done is destroying a white supremacist society built on human sacrifices. What needs to be done is returning the land to its rightful stewards. What needs to be done is for me to get absolutely shredded to the point my jeans cannot fit me anymore. Okay the last one doesn’t need to be done but I’ve been slowly lifting more and more and I’m looking forward to the days where my thighs are larger than a medium-sized tree trunk. I promise this isn’t turning into an annoying fitness blog but going to the gym and people fighting ICE agents are the only things that prompt feelings of joy currently.

There were no politicians at the scene because if they were they would have held a press conference right afterwards to hear the sound of their voices. In fact, the only agents of the state present were sent by the head autocrat of this fascist state and the NYPD police commissioner Jessica Tisch who will also be Zohran’s police commissioner. The NYPD, the same institution that Zohran apologized to for calling racist, held hands with fellow modern-day slave catchers to prevent concerned citizens from protecting each other. I haven’t looked at the definition of racism recently but I’m guessing assisting people who target people not perceived as white with state violence is the textbook definition.

The victory over ICE is proof that we don’t need leaders or politicians to do what needs to be done. What we need is the incontrovertible belief that everyone is deserving of freedom and it is our responsibility as the collective to deliver this human right. We must refuse to fall for false prophets, sorry if this triggers memories of horrible times at Sunday school. I use the p word because what needs to be done requires a spiritual awakening. A surge inside our spirits that makes the existence of autocracy intolerable. Intolerable to its existence that we are driven to fight it at all costs.

Checking in on my programming

I’m constantly contemplating my wants. Where do my desires come from and why am I driven to seek certain things? These thoughts devour every corner of my mind asking me to question where these ideas come from. Did they come from an internal desire, or were they propagated by all the capitalist propaganda none of us can escape? Everywhere we go we are inundated by screens or posters telling us to buy something, watch something and develop certain ideas.

I just finished reading Before the Mango Ripens by Afabwaje Kurian. The book follows the lives of three Nigerians in post-colonial Rabata, a town in Nigeria. Zanya, Tebeya, and Jummai are different people with different needs but they share the desire to be “successful”. I bring up this book because these characters’ definition of success aligns with western values of success. Tebeya and Zanya seek to be leaders of the missionary clinic and the hospital, respectively, yet their ambitions are blocked by white Americans who view western presence as critical to the lives of the Nigerians. The missionaries (colonizers) refer to themselves as being in service of the people as if separating people from their culture and history is to serve anything other than destroying the archives of societies whose memories are passed through storytelling.

Tebeya and Zanya recognize rightfully that Africans should determine their own destiny while holding onto the values of success laid out by colonizers. Tebeya and Zanya both seek prestige through leadership in institutions created by the missionaries. Yes, for Zanya the prestige is also deeply intertwined with the pursuit of monetary gain to fulfill his material conditions. At no point do these characters question the structure of the institutions they seek to “lead”, they only challenge the notion that they should be foreign led.

These characters seek the value in things they’ve been told by the white men are valuable. They seek leadership positions created for white men in white institutions because they view this as individual or communal progress.

News that a customer at work shared with me

During my shift at the bookstore someone offered to give me their copy of the Wall Street Journal so it didn’t go to waste. Every single part of my body begged me to scream, PRINTING THAT GARBAGE was the original waste! Then my work persona was tempted to say sure and then proceed to toss it in the garbage or maybe burn it so as to prevent further dissemination of capitalist propaganda.

My work persona like everyone else’s is prone to accepting behavior I would never accept in the streets. In the streets, Susan from marketing would be getting more than “as per my previous e-mail”.

However, I remembered this store is a Black-owned queer bookstore that is explicitly anti-fascist. If I can’t tell anyone I don’t read the Wall Street Journal here, why can I say it? So I told this man, I don’t read the Wall Street Journal. To which he sheepishly responded, he knew bringing up the Wall Street Journal in this store is sacrilege but there is an article about Israel trafficking Palestinians from Gaza that he thought I might find interesting. I guess my “you are on native land” baseball hat tipped him off.

He proceeded to sift through the pages of capitalist propaganda to hand me the news which I found interesting and upsetting. The news covers the story of over 150 Palestinians from Gaza who arrived in South Africa without the “proper” travel papers, surprising the South African government and raising questions of how they were able to leave the Gaza Strip.

The South African president alleges that this is part of Israel’s plan to remove Palestinians from their homeland and the evidence agrees with him. From what the media has uncovered, the Palestinians’ travel was arranged by an organization called Al-Majd which claims to have been founded in 2010 but the organization’s website was created this year. Everyone knows the first thing anyone does even before their idea for their gluten-free cookie delivery service is fully fleshed out is to start a website. So there is no way Al-Majd got around to starting a website 15 years after its founding, Al-Majd is run by liars.

Al-Majd is led by a former Israeli military member, Tomer Janar Lind, obviously a liar because telling lies and committing genocide go hand in hand. Tomer’s unit was “charged with the forced transfer of Palestinians from Gaza”. I swear for being consistent liars these genociders do a criminally poor job of hiding their crimes. Yes let’s just hire the guy who was displacing people for the same job in a different organization, no one will ever figure us out! Teenage me did a better job of hiding my transgressions.

However, I guess you don’t have to worry about being adept at covering your criminality when you can commit genocide in plain sight and then have your friend preside over the territory you annihilated.

So there you have it, I learned that Israel is actively trafficking Palestinians out of Gaza using a sham humanitarian agency at work. Instead of running out and screaming that we should immediately topple this evil regime that funds genocide, I went back to arranging the bookshelves.

What if we all ran out of our workplaces and started screaming about the crimes we experience and read about?

News that made me think about every racist white woman I’ve ever seen

Kristi Noem, a woman who reminds me of every racist white woman I’ve ever met, spent over 200 million dollars of American taxpayer funds on a vile white supremacist ad that Klan members have incorporated into their “get ready” routine. The purpose of the ad is to deter “illegal migration” by threatening people seeking a better life after the United States of America has destroyed their homeland with violence.

If you are at any point confused whether this ad is racist or not, the ad’s glorification of genocide and depiction of mount rushmore as a source of pride instead of shame should clarify things. To be honest, every single time you see Kristi Noem’s face you should assume something racist is happening. Yes, Kristi is the star of this ad! Kristi is a woman with many talents: white supremacy, star of fascist shorts, and corruption.

After recovering from watching a white woman proudly refer to enslavers of people as her forefathers, followed by quick edits of Donald Trump, I was able to laugh at the absurdity of this expensive sketch. The lies, topped with lies confidently delivered without a hint of humor makes this short film a dark humor bonanza. I’m sure Kristi wasn’t joking when she says America is the place where people come to “live as they choose” in the ad, but anyone who has lived in this country for three seconds knows this is as truthful of a statement as anything that topples out of Donald Trump’s deceptive mouth. The only people allowed to live as they choose in this country are billionaires, 35 year old racist white boys (white men are boys who should always be forgiven for being racist), and fascists.

I would say the best part of this fascist flick is the transgressions Kristi lists as punishable are activities Donald Trump, the US government, and corporations happily engage in. “Break our laws we will punish you” Kristi says while Trump wakes up every morning with the excitement of all the illegal activity his presidency shields him from. War crimes, check, more war crimes, check, accepting bribes I mean gifts to reduce tariffs, check.

Then Kristi says, “harm american citizens there will be consequences” and I toppled over with laughter. If there are consequences for harming American citizens, those consequences are the presidency, secretary of DHS, or CEO of a company because no one harms American citizens more than the state and corporations. Who is union busting, kidnapping citizens, forcing citizens to see their ugly faces, amongst other crimes? It’s almost as if our problems would be ameliorated if Kristi Noem pursued the true culprits of our pain instead of demonizing people who are simply doing what humans have done for the entirety of our existence, migrate. However, pursuing the true culprits of our misery would require Kristi Noem to punish herself, something that crime bosses generally don’t do.

Kristi isn’t just a crime boss who funds fascist cinema, she’s also the old school corrupt politician who funnels government funds to her friends’ coffers. Yes, Kristi’s friend was one of the people paid handsomely to create and distribute this white supremacist dark comedy.

As I stated, the consequences of harming American citizens is more money!

News that made me feel like politicians are treating climate change like I treat my gluten intolerance

I was elated when I learned Indigenous people interrupted the sham United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belem, Brazil, which claims to work on solutions for global climate change while inviting oil lobbyists. That’s like me trying to mitigate my gluten intolerance by eating a whole loaf of wheat bread. It doesn’t work, trust me I’ve tried.

This climate change conference has been happening for thirty years and as you know the globe is still warming like the day-old coffee I stuck in the microwave because I’m too lazy to clean my french press. If you’ve been meeting for thirty years and you still can’t resolve a problem, you are not really trying to solve the problem. You’re pretending to solve the problem so you can use the conference as your naptime, after exacerbating the problem with the flights you took to pretend you are solving the problem.

Yes, I’m talking about Joe Biden taking a nap during COP26. This is arguably the most honest thing Joe has ever done. He wasn’t going to be bothered to pretend these talks mean anything so he did the right thing, used this opportunity for a disco nap. There’s never a better time to take a nap than during a useless meeting. Remote workers, take note. On site workers, start wearing sunglasses for your sensitive eyes when your boss calls a union busting meeting.

Everyone knows the solution to mitigating climate change is ending capitalism but since these world “leaders” are the rich people’s lackeys, they will pretend they don’t know what’s ailing the planet like I pretend I don’t know what’s ailing me after I gluten myself with tasty sourdough.

Only this time Indigenous people arrived to remind them of their lies.

After learning about the amazing crashing of the ridiculous summit, I, of course, had to watch the videos. One thing you should know about me if you don’t already know is that videos of people revolting against the state is my lullaby. Nothing puts me to sleep faster than seeing cops being overwhelmed by the public. Bonus if there are flying objects!

The video I watched showcased why we don’t need the police. The police brutalized people who are literally there to save the planet to protect people who are actively destroying the planet. The moment of the video that touched me to my core was an Indigenous person passionately explaining why they were there. They said, “We don’t eat money, we want our territory free. But the business of oil exploration, mineral exploration, and logging continues.” These words were a shattering spiritual reminder for me.

It reminded me that no matter how much capitalism commodifies everything and gaslights us into believing that extraction for financial gain is the sole purpose of existing, the truth is that we will only be free when the land is free. Free from exploitation, free from extraction, free from the grip of colonization.

The question is what are we willing to do to free the land?

The Zohran Rant

During my show last week someone asked me what I thought about Zohran. It’s the first time I’ve hesitated before answering a question during a show. Usually I have a biting musing ready to be fired. This time I let the audience into my brain, I generally don’t do that because the audience wants me to be sure, confident.

I told the audience I didn’t want to say what I thought because this is a comedy show and I don’t want them to turn on me. The most important part about hosting a comedy show is creating a vibe where everyone is happy and wants to laugh. I usually do this by brutally roasting liberals and asking people if they love Lenin.

However, my show is in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The headquarters of “Hot Girls for Zohran”. These hot girls don’t want to hear anything negative about Zohran, unless the negative thing is, do you think Zohran is too hot? They have replaced their brunches with knocking on doors for Zohran. They are sacrificing their mimosas so that people who don’t pay for buses can get free buses. No one is interested in your opinions about electoral politics siphoning energy from direct action that could achieve material change (see Kansas rent strike, also see the ENTIRE FUCKING BLACK PANTHERS).

The idea that even if you care about electoral politics the best way to get any politician to do anything is by carrying out direct action not begging them, the hot girls don’t want to hear this. They want Zohran and they want you to shut up!

I didn’t shut up. I was silent for a moment. Then I responded. I remember Obama. The audience erupted in laughter. Then I said, I remember Bernie. They laughed but not as loudly. I said, I remember AOC, a few chuckles. I told an old joke I wrote about politicians.

I hate politicians so much I don’t even listen to them. If I wanted to listen to people who I didn’t like or didn’t agree with, I would get on a zoom call with my coworkers.

Uncomfortable laughter.

I felt isolated. This audience is usually on my side but today they had picked Zohran over me. People who call themselves anarchists told me they would vote for Zohran. If you are an anarchist who votes, please tell me why? I swear I won’t judge you. I honestly want to know.

For the first time in my entire stand up career I stood on a stage and thought to myself I don’t want to be here telling jokes. I don’t want to perform if I have to silence myself. If I can’t get on stage and launch into a diatribe of how electoral politics will never save us, I’d rather stay at home and eat vegan grilled cheese sandwiches.

Luckily for me four days later following my epic weeping on the dancefloor after performing at a comedy show where everyone was having fun but me I saw an Instagram post naming my feelings. Telling me everything I wanted and needed to hear. I read the fourth slide to my husband while weeping. I’m not alone.

I knew I wasn’t alone. There are so many people on the internet who have criticized Zohran for his stance on people stating what needs to be done: “Globalize the Intifada”. Other people have scorched Zohran for backpedaling on defunding the police.

However, these words reminded me that there are so many people out there not falling for the “politician will save you” trick again! I needed these words.

The enemy state benefits from nothing more than the funneling of potentially revolutionary energy into reformist electoral politics in the face of an earth-shattering armed uprising in Palestine, the sparks of anti-imperialist conscience it nourished within the imperial core, and the threatening levels of mass mobilization and direct action we saw — particularly in New York City — against zionism and US-led imperialism. The Democratic Party and their NGO apparatus, which includes the Democratic Socialists of America, is the most insidious arm of counterinsurgency in the US, defined by co-optation and neutralization of liberation movements.

I didn’t read the whole piece on Substack until today! The piece’s first sentence are the same words I spoke on my show on November 1st. Here we are, two different people in different places, yet our spirit remembers the lies. The trickery of the state and the capitalists. Every single time they say this is the one. This is the one politician who will change your life. We know all the other ones have lied and disappointed you. However, this one is different. He is going to give you free healthcare, he is going to give you [insert whatever life changing thing].

So go ahead and give up your power and your autonomy to carry out change through your own communities to your lord and savior [Obama, AOC, Bernie, Zohran, whoever the next cool young person who wears democratic socialism as a badge of honor]. It feels like every single time I’ve been prescribed different medicine for my “mental illness”, when what ails me is capitalism’s inability to accept that I’m not a robot who can show up in the same mood every day.

I’m not above it. I’ve fallen for the good ole vote your way to freedom trick too. I volunteered for Bernie’s first campaign because he said universal healthcare. I knocked on doors for Phara and Jabari.

Then I read “How Europe Underdeveloped Africa” by Walter Rodney where he states “if there is no class stratification in a society, it follows that there is no state, because the state arose as an instrument to be used by a particular class to control the rest of society in its own interests.”

I stopped knocking on doors after that. I understood then by knocking on doors I was asking my community to believe asking our oppressors to stop oppressing us would work. By knocking on doors I was telling people if they vote for the person who gets to hold Godzilla’s leash, then Godzilla won’t be so mean to them.

I refuse to knock on a door for someone to give me things that we can give ourselves through direct action. Things that the state has taken away from us.

I refuse to knock on doors because it legitimizes our biggest oppressor. THE FUCKING STATE. The state evicts us from our homes for landlords then says I can help you with housing. The state forces us to work at gunpoint by seizing the commons then tells us, I’m here to keep you safe.

I don’t believe the powers of the state can be seized for good because it centralizes power and shreds our autonomy to serve capital.

I’m not seeking perfection. I’m seeking freedom. I believed Lucy Parsons when she said: “Never be deceived that the rich will allow you to vote away their wealth.”

News that made me quote a Kardashian

There’s a meme on the internet when Kim Kardashian sobs for her lost diamond earrings and her sister Kourtney with absolutely no sympathy responds, “Kim, there’s people that are dying.” An unexpected level of self-awareness from people who’ve spend their whole “careers” marketing excess and rampant consumerism to the American public while appropriating Black culture.

I bring this meme up to say I’m the Kourtney to people currently screaming about the demolition of the East Wing of the White House. There are people that are dying, liberals, and the demolition of a house that housed generations of war criminals is not on my top one million things to care about. I care more about the Dorito that I dropped when I was 12 years old and couldn’t pick up because my mother was watching me. Yes, I’m a fervent believer of the 30 second rule and I’m not ashamed of it. One time I found a piece of candy between my couch cushions and I gobbled it without hesitation. So I guess I’m more of a believer in if it still looks tasty, I’ll eat it.

Every single time people say can you believe Trump is destroying a house built by enslaved people and represents a disgusting imperialist state, I want to scream out that people are dying in my best vocal fry. However, these people already know people are dying. CNN which fired a journalist for speaking up for Palestine is mourning the loss of the East Wing like a bad break up. Showcasing photos of the war criminals who spent their time in reclining chairs after a full day of violating people’s human rights. Who doesn’t need a break after a day of murdering people in the name of freedom?

CNN and liberals who watch it care more about a building than the multiple genocides. I know this because I’ve had more liberals ask me about my thoughts on the East Wing than they have about Sudan. I’m not claiming that random liberals talking to me is a statistically significant sample size but it feels like the Jimmy Kimmel of it all again. Liberals prioritizing white feelings over people’s deaths. In this case it’s literally a white house.

I’m once again reminded liberals want to maintain institutions of oppression as long as it doesn’t interrupt their brunch. They’ve said they’d be at brunch if a nicer genocider was in office and made signs.

Liberals want fascism covered in glitter. DEI fascism. Fascism where your race, gender, sexuality, and class don’t matter as long as you are fully invested in maintaining a white supremacist world order. You can be a Black war criminal dropping bombs on the Middle East as long as you tell Africa to stop blaming its problems on colonialism as colonialism is actively happening.

Liberals love glitter fascism because glitter fascism gaslights people in the center of the empire into believing someone in power cares about them while the empire guzzles the resources from colonized countries like a liberal guzzles mimosas during a democratic presidency.

The rant

I have a hate hate relationship with money. I hate that I currently need it to live. I hate that I must sell/rent parts of myself to get it. I hate that money has ruined our relationships with each other. In his book Debt, David Graeber mentions something about how money removes the necessity to build relationships with people (Graeber 2011). I agree. Think about it. With money anyone can walk into a restaurant and force the people who work there to serve them. I mean technically you are not forcing them to do it. It’s their job. But they are being forced to do that job because they need the money to live. Sure they could say no, but they probably can’t because they need the money to live. See the loop of evil that money creates.

People amass money because it’s a tool of domination. Elon doesn’t have to have a good personality because he can use his wallet to force people to do things.

In a world where money didn’t exist, which we know that many of those worlds existed, people had different types of relationships. My favorite kind is the gifting economy.

I made a video about four years ago when I learned about the myth of barter from David Graeber. When I learned that the generally accepted myth of barter being the origin of money is a lie, I lost my mind and I haven’t found it since. EVERYTHING IS A LIE!!!

Also, yes this will be a very heavy David Graeber rant!

David Graeber mentions that there is no evidence that bartering ever existed between people who knew each other. Graeber states, “The story of money for economists always begins with a fantasy world of barter.”1 Yes, Adam Smith was a liar but since when have white men who are venerated by this structure of oppression spoke the truth. If you are a white man and you speak the truth, you are labeled as a nut or killed. Just ask the ghost of John Brown! I do wish John Brown does come back and haunts every white supremacist on that “Young Republican” group chat.

David Graeber doesn’t say Smith is a liar. I do! In fact he cuts him slack. He says, “In Smith’s defense, at least it could be said that in his time, reliable information on Native American economic systems was unavailable in Scottish libraries.”2 My question to Adam is why would you make up things about people you don’t know! I thought you were an academic whose whole life is based on evidence!

I don’t understand how Adam was allowed to build a whole field of study with less receipts than a cast member of the Real Housewives of Atlanta needs to spill the tea on someone’s extramarital shenanigans. Again I shouldn’t be surprised because as we know history is built on the lies of white men.

News that made me tell you to hide your glue gun

ICE agents threw tear gas across the street from an elementary school in Chicago. When Donald Trump says the level of crime in Chicago and other large US cities is intolerable, he is right. The unacceptable crimes are being perpetrated by the US government, large corporations, and Taylor Swift’s dancing. There will never be a time that I will not find it absurdly hilarious that a mediocre white woman was able to dance poorly to a billion dollar fortune. Never!

Anyways, the US government and large corporations are kidnapping people, bullying children, and stealing our lives in this dystopian nightmare that should be called Gangs of America. The US government and the ruling class who it serves are a criminal enterprise we are all paying for. We pay for this criminal enterprise financially and spiritually. The corporations which we support pay for the tech and the government which we pay for provides the guns. You aren’t just paying Spotify to blare out the pain of renting your life to some overlord so you can pay your rent. You are also paying Spotify to find kidnappers who tear gas children.

I would say we’ve reached that stage of fascism where children are being bullied by the US government but the US government bullying children is as American as white male war criminal presidents. The United States of America imprisons children now, kidnapped and held indigenous children captive in the past. Those are just a few instances of the government bullying children.

No, I’m not surprised by ICE throwing tear gas across the street from a school anymore than I’m surprised by the government charging people with terrorism for sending encrypted messages and making zines. Hide your staplers and staples lest you be indicted because running an anti-capitalist craft club is considered a “terrorist enterprise now”.

The United States government, the people who are gassing elementary children are claiming the real terrorists are people armed with a Signal app and glue guns. Behold the absurdity of fascism. I would laugh at this dark comedy called life if I weren’t currently doing my favorite thing, screaming into the abyss.

People in Texas are currently being detained for supporting a “terrorist act” outside an ICE detention center where a cop was shot by sending disappearing messages and writing zines. I hate to be redundant but this is not astonishing. Trying people for merely expressing anti-capitalist thoughts is as American as white women proving their girl-boss-hood by embracing fascism, yes I’m talking about Pam Bondi.

In 1886 anarchists were hanged after someone threw dynamite at cops who were repressing labor activists. None of the people who were hanged were present when the dynamite was thrown yet they were charged for throwing the dynamite. Their crime? Identifying as anarchists.

There’s never been a time in this country where fighting against oppression hasn’t been targeted by the state because fascists hate freedom much like swifties hate good music!

News that made me breakdown colonizer math for you…you’re welcome

Allegedly, Hamas and Israel have agreed on a ceasefire deal that will end the genocide. I say allegedly because Israel violates ceasefires more than Donald Trump goes to the tanning salon. I can’t say I’m shocked that trigger happy genocidal criminals wouldn’t immediately stop murdering people after they claimed to have ceased. That’s like being shocked that Donald Trump has done something inhumane. I never underestimate how evil vile people are, it’s what keeps the last bit of my sanity intact. If I went around being shocked every single time an evil overlord decided to participate in evil overlord activities, my anxiety would ask me who do I think I am? adding work to its already overflowing plate. I do stay angry though.

The ceasefire is part of a 20-point plan drawn by the white house to “end the war in Gaza”. I would have saved the white house a whole lot of time by giving them my one point plan for peace in Palestine. My one point plan for peace in Gaza is Make Palestine Palestine again. I’m trying to use language that Donald and his ilk might understand.

Part of the 20-point plan includes the disarmament of Hamas but not the disarmament of Israel. I find it quite peculiar that the party that caused the most damage gets to keep all their armaments while the party that doesn’t have missile defenses must submit to disarmament. By quite peculiar I mean colonizer nonsense, sus, what in the actual fuck.

I could go on and on about how ridiculous it is to let an institution that sets people’s houses on fire so they can’t come back home keep weapons while telling the people whose homes they are about to set on fire to drop their guns but if you are here reading my complaints you already know. You already know we live in a world run by colonizers and one of the rules of the colonizers is that the colonized are not allowed to defend themselves.

If we lived in a world where the right to bodily autonomy and self-defense existed, then there would be an arms embargo to Israel and it would include matches. If you set people’s houses on fire and post it on social media, you should never be allowed to have access to fire again. If five year olds aren’t allowed to have matches because they’ll burn the house down, then Israel should never have access to matches, let alone missiles because it will burn the whole region down. However, we live in hell so Israel can say Hamas needs to get rid of its weapons with a straight face while actively arming pro-Israeli militia groups in Gaza who recently murdered Palestinian journalist Saleh Al-Jafarawi for covering genocide.

Let’s break this colonizer math down.

Israel wants Hamas to disarm + Israel labels anyone who supports Palestinian liberation Hamas + Israel funds pro-Israeli groups in Gaza = Palestinians don’t have a right to self defense + Israel continues the genocide.

Jobs Jobs Jobs

Jobs jobs jobs jobs. There aren’t any jobs. This is hyperbole. There are jobs but so few jobs that it feels like playing the lottery every time I hit submit on an application. Should I start playing the lottery? At least if I don’t win the lottery I won’t be filled with guilt and shame of not being good enough to be exploited. The question then is whether I’m lucky or not? Did I wear the right socks that day? Did I pick the right numbers? Did I dream of fish?

Of course everyone says it’s not your fault you didn’t get the job. Everyone except for those few people on LinkedIn who insist that if you use the right keywords on your resume, have a wizard pray over your resume, and find a way to accost the hiring manager at the train station, you will get a job. However, living in a society where we are told everything our oppressors do to us is our fault, it doesn’t matter how many times someone tells me everyone is struggling. The capitalist training inside of me goes but surely there must be something I can do other than topple this system of oppression that breeds on my insecurity. The training is wrong and we are slowly working on it but it’s like playing Whac-A-Mole.

A job I recently applied to said they received around 800+ applications. Why the plus? Why not tell me the exact number of applications so I know whether it’s better to play the lottery or finally decide to make a go at American Idol or America’s Got Talent. Is writing immaculate emails and writing extensive follow up notes a skill that can be showcased for Simon to rebuke?

When did we as a society decide that our right to exist as a populace was dependent on serving an overlord? Surely the first human was not forced to optimize conversation rates before they were allowed to gather. I quickly looked up how ancient humans survived and it snapped me back to my biology class where words like Homo Sapien, Homo erectus were being fervently thrown around as I took a nap on my desk. I hated biology and this is research that I’m not willing to do. If knowing something about the first human interests you, you may start where my research began and ended. One thing of note from the reading is that a hypothesis of why humans outlived Neanderthals is due to a wider social network. So if you ever needed another reminder that it takes a village to exist or burn down a system, there it is.

Though I’m not interested in the first human to get a job, I’m specifically interested in when was the first time my people needed to sell or rent their bodies to access provisions for survival, i.e., food, water, shelter. I’m Luo, we refer to ourselves as Joluo. Jo means people of. You can currently find my people in East Africa in what’s called Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Uganda, DR Congo, and Ethiopia.

Turns out my people were forced out of the pastoralist, subsistence agriculture living by the colonizers through a hut tax in 1901 and a poll tax in 1910! The hut tax was to be paid for every hut but the poll tax targeted males in the homestead (dala). The purpose of the poll tax was “to compel young men to participate in military service and external labor, including work on European farms”. My insides are searing! I would be wearing beads, walking around mostly in the nude and enjoying life if it weren’t for those Brits. Imagine the nerve to invade someone’s home, steal their land, force them to work for you, and still not be able to make Prince Charles less ugly.

Can you believe living your whole life minding your own business, growing your own food, wearing cute jewelry, and then a pale ghost shows up and says you have to pay a fee to exist?

To force us to labor for the colonizers, instead of our own communities, is the foundation of colonialism, white supremacy, imperialism, and everything evil white people have brought to us. The idea that our whole existence is meant to serve people who prioritize decimating drinking water to build data centers is some raggedy ass thinking that should incite a spiritual and physical rebellion from the masses. If your priorities are so atrocious, you should not be able to make any decisions regarding anything anyone should do with their lives.

So when I hear these conversations about nobody wanting to work anymore, the reality is no one wants to be a wage slave anymore. The purpose of these jobs is to enslave us and rip us from our communities so we don’t do the important work of loving and caring for each other. I don’t want to sell my life to colonizers, I want to go back to wearing beads and doing whatever it was doing before I had to call myself a digital strategist to live.

The poem

It took a white rich man for you to name fascism
It took a rich white man who has done nothing but make you feel good about your whiteness to scream for freedom
A Black man was lynched in his cell in the place colonizers call Kansas
No response, no media coverage, no liberals wringing their hands screaming about fascism
When fascism comes for us
The Black, the ones whose birthright has been assigned as criminal
The silence is stunning
When fascism comes for the white the rich the mouthpiece for liberalism
The tears are swift, the anger is unmitigated, the “truth” becomes important
Fascism is for the Black, the brown, the undocumented, the ones who this land belongs to
Fascism is for the downtrodden masses
The statue you claim represents liberty spews out words about welcoming the downtrodden to cover up the truth
There can be no liberty for the downtrodden masses
As long as an entity that creates and defends the creation of downtrodden masses exists

News that momentarily extinguished my desire to write or talk

I opened the Kansas City Defender newsletter and I saw his face. His name is Charles L. Adair. The headline said he was executed in a jail cell. His ribs broken, the state claims his death was self inflicted by ongoing alcoholism. I’ve had strong tequila before but never the kind that broke my ribs and fractured my chest. The state is lying, the state always lies. The state lies because anything built on a lie must sustain itself with lies. The clearer the truth, the higher the likelihood of the state to lie. Charles’ body stored the memory of murder, his body screamed out the truth, and the state suppressed the cries by disseminating lies about no injury.

I read this news seven days ago and I haven’t been able to write anything on this site since then. I’ve been angry for not being able to force myself to record videos. I didn’t know why I couldn’t will myself to do my two favorite things: write and talk. The urge nagged at my insides yet I felt blocked to act. Now and then Charles’ face would briefly flash in my mind. This morning I woke up thinking about him. I’ve never met this man, never stepped on the land called Kansas yet I grieved his death. A Black man once again killed for being Black. Killed for daring to exist. My grief stopped me from creating.

I’m not just grieving, I’m furious. The fury is fueled by how many white people, some who have never said anything about Gaza all of a sudden became civil rights activists overnight when their beloved white man was cancelled. This white man whose greatest hits include encouraging parents to give their children terrible christmas gifts or pretend to have devoured their children’s halloween candy and recording these incidents for the world’s entertainment. I’ve watched these videos, I laughed at them, but this is not a voice worthy of a crusade. My debate team not reaching finals because the other team cheated is more worthy of an uprising. Talk about suppressed freedom of speech.

There are a litany of ruthless actions by the state that deserved attention but a white man with a suit, oh no! The same corporate interests that attempted to cancel Jimmy are the same corporate interests that ignore the murder of a Black man. How easy it is to ignore and even worse justify the deaths of thousands of Palestinians when you’ve trained for hundreds of years to ignore the execution of Black people.

The swift action against Jimmy Kimmel’s cancellation has reminded me that white people only care about protecting whiteness. They will garner their collective strength to cancel ESPN2 because when the state threatens whiteness the state is no longer serving its purpose.
