the first time I&#8217;ve included a song that I believe is AI, although the artist in question Fenix Flexin, denies it. I am surprised and a bit uneasy to find that I actually like the song. You can read more below, but it sounds like a sort of soggy and crumpled version of the Pet Shop Boys, which seems like an unusual choice for a LA rapper. Artists can re-invent themselves of course, but give the track a listen and let me know what you think. . . </p><p>Recently <span class="mention-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Jasmine Sun&quot;,&quot;id&quot;:25322552,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;user&quot;,&quot;url&quot;:null,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/a16a54b9-cd9f-4998-9038-c68f178d400e_2708x2708.jpeg&quot;,&quot;uuid&quot;:&quot;6e71a3f2-174a-442a-872a-496c5fe85594&quot;}" data-component-name="MentionToDOM"></span> , who writes <a href="https://jasmi.news/">a very good newsletter</a> about AI and silicon valley culture, spoke at the Substack Media Forum and this quote (directed at writers) stuck out for me: </p><blockquote><p>But your audience wants to feel connected to you. They want to know that you are the person generating the text. There&#8217;s a reason why behind-the-scenes videos go really viral now. People don&#8217;t just want to see the final presentation; they want to see all the proof of work behind it. . . It allows people to make a connection between a living being and the words on the page, showing that the point of view comes from somewhere. That stuff is going to be scarce. It&#8217;s going to be irreplaceable.</p></blockquote><p>I thought about this again when trying to work out how I feel about the Fenix Flexin track. So many comments I read were calling for him to perform the track live (no lip-syncing) or release footage of himself recording it, and <strong>the uproar felt more about people </strong><em><strong>not knowing</strong></em><strong> if the track is AI than anything else</strong>. The idea of artists sharing process used to feel like a generous one, a little glimpse into a mind you admire. This version, the one Sun speaks about above, feels more suspicious than generous. More show me how you made this, not because I am interested in your process, but because I need to know if<em> you</em> actually made it. It makes for suspicious listening - proof of humanity certainly isn&#8217;t something I&#8217;m used to looking for in music. </p><p>There is, of course, plenty of very human music on the playlist this week too: re-imaginings of French composer Faur&#233;, haunted songs, perfect pop and a song that will make you fear for your life. </p><h4><a href="https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Ws6lNYz0W3XUasRRCEmnG?si=e2c707a89d6343fe">SPOTIFY PLAYLIST</a></h4><h4><br><a href="https://music.apple.com/za/playlist/16-06-26/pl.u-pMylAdmCYZqx2y">APPLE MUSIC PLAYLIST</a></h4><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://emmawithers.substack.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">why not subscribe?</p></div><form class="subscription-widget-subscribe"><input type="email" class="email-input" name="email" placeholder="Type your email&#8230;" tabindex="-1"><input type="submit" class="button primary" value="Subscribe"><div class="fake-input-wrapper"><div class="fake-input"></div><div class="fake-button"></div></div></form></div></div><p></p><p></p><div class="bandcamp-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://elanormoss.bandcamp.com/track/sarah-waiting-in-the-car&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Sarah Waiting in the Car, by Elanor Moss&quot;,&quot;description&quot;:&quot;from the album The Knife, The Needle&quot;,&quot;thumbnail_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/a337fd0e-5821-4ebd-b791-66f9457ec019_700x700.jpeg&quot;,&quot;author&quot;:&quot;Elanor Moss&quot;,&quot;embed_url&quot;:&quot;https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3788649906/transparent=true/&quot;,&quot;is_album&quot;:false}" data-component-name="BandcampToDOM"><iframe src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3788649906/transparent=true/" frameborder="0" gesture="media" scrolling="no" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div><p>Elanor Moss grew up in a very religious household and was home schooled for most of her youth. Some background if you&#8217;re out of the loop: Fenix Flexin is one half of the L.A. duo Shoreline Mafia. They make music that sounds exactly like what you think a duo called Shoreline Mafia makes. Fenix, a rapper from LA, does not generally make music that sounds like an old British man in a crumpled jacket standing in the rain. It is all very suspicious. People are of course shouting AI, which he&#8217;s denying, but my feeling is that this is definitely AI. Sure artists change styles, this seems like a very far fetched version of that though, and there is so much about this song &#8212; the lyrics, the pacing of the vocals &#8212; that gives powerful AI energy. More interestingly it is the first AI song I actually like, that I am actually listening to. This feels like a big moment, and not one I feel that comfortable with. So far it&#8217;s been very easy to laugh off a lot of AI generated music, but to find one that I actually want to listen to feels a bit unnerving. . . </p><iframe class="spotify-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;image&quot;:&quot;https://i.scdn.co/image/ab67616d0000b2736949b83f85d782b21ce70583&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;stupid song&quot;,&quot;subtitle&quot;:&quot;Olivia Rodrigo&quot;,&quot;description&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://open.spotify.com/track/49j6SvuvWfbEKZKzsHCdLJ&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;noScroll&quot;:false}" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/49j6SvuvWfbEKZKzsHCdLJ" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allowfullscreen="true" allow="encrypted-media" loading="lazy" data-component-name="Spotify2ToDOM"></iframe><p>This album is out now and I love it. I have had this song stuck in my head for 2 days and I&#8217;m not even mad about it. So much of good pop writing is about giving in: to letting chords and melodies go exactly where you expect them to go, and then finding something that catches you by surprise, and this album is full of songs that do exactly that. On this one we&#8217;ve got the beautifully predictable repetitive melodies and a big shouty bridge that I wasn&#8217;t expecting at all. Perfection. </p><p></p><div class="bandcamp-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://sofieroyer.bandcamp.com/track/sesquicentennial&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Sesquicentennial, by Sofie Royer&quot;,&quot;description&quot;:&quot;from the album before/after&quot;,&quot;thumbnail_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/bc304939-4120-4f52-a3da-a1d7e4a6563c_700x700.jpeg&quot;,&quot;author&quot;:&quot;Sofie Royer&quot;,&quot;embed_url&quot;:&quot;https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=954808105/transparent=true/&quot;,&quot;is_album&quot;:false}" data-component-name="BandcampToDOM"><iframe src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=954808105/transparent=true/" frameborder="0" gesture="media" scrolling="no" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div><p>My fave, the thinking persons pop star, Sofie Royer, is back with another single from her upcoming album. He used to show me buildings along the way and teach me about architecture. There was this particular brutalist post office that we were obsessed with. It was something we could bond over. We came back to the city every few months or so to get psychological assessments of how [the treatment is] going. I&#8217;m from a really small town so we used to have to drive to a big city, which in that case was Hamburg in Germany. [One day we noticed] they knocked [the post office] down and built an apartment building that was a classic modern apartment building. We were like, &#8220;Ugh, they ruined the city,&#8221; you know?</p><p>In recent years, there&#8217;s been so much talk about &#8230; honestly from the beginning of my transition when I talked about [my transition in the German media]. I was 12 talking about it, which I kind of regret because privacy was really blurred, [but] I was really unashamed of talking about it because I was a kid and I was like, &#8220;This is the way it is.&#8221; Now that I&#8217;m in America, there&#8217;s so much shame around sex, sexual education is such a taboo, and it&#8217;s such a weird climate right now especially about trans kids in particular. They&#8217;re the enemy right now. In this political climate I&#8217;m happy I can stand for [the idea that] trans kids can transition and then be a grown up and happy and make [those] choices. I made the right choices that I&#8217;m proud of to this day.</p><p>But [at the same time] I have people saying I ruined my body and I ruined my life. They don&#8217;t know me at all. They don&#8217;t know my history, that I went to so many psychologists and so many doctors and that it was a real thing that had an assessment and [they gave me] an answer [about] why I got to [get hormone treatment]. It saved my life and then there&#8217;s people who are like, &#8220;This saved your life, but you ruined everything,&#8221;</p><p>I felt like my dad and I were guilty [of that with the apartment]. There&#8217;s people living in this modern apartment building now probably like, &#8220;We love it here,&#8221; and we&#8217;re like, &#8220;Nah, it&#8217;s basic and y&#8217;all ruined it.&#8221; I thought it was interesting to compare the two. What does it mean if something&#8217;s ruined but other people love it and it&#8217;s subjective. People are saying that you fucked it all up. That relates so much, too, to [how I&#8217;m] getting away from the pop formula.&#8221;</p></blockquote><p></p><iframe class="spotify-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;image&quot;:&quot;https://i.scdn.co/image/ab67616d0000b273f8ffcf88dd3a12787697a7dc&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Club To Your Arms&quot;,&quot;subtitle&quot;:&quot;Rose Gray&quot;,&quot;description&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://open.spotify.com/track/2LZx0kkWq9wnxpFYBzhaIZ&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;noScroll&quot;:false}" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/2LZx0kkWq9wnxpFYBzhaIZ" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allowfullscreen="true" allow="encrypted-media" loading="lazy" data-component-name="Spotify2ToDOM"></iframe><p>Made my annual winter (it is winter where I am) announcement that &#8220;this summer I am going to go so hard,&#8221; this Sunday after listening to this song and drinking 2 white wine spritzers. This week, it&#8217;s the magical musician, Lucy Gooch. Her debut album, <em><a href="https://lucygooch.bandcamp.com/album/desert-window">Desert Window</a></em>, arrived last year to much praise from <em>Pitchfork</em>, <em>The New York</em> <em>Times</em>, and me! If you haven&#8217;t listened to her yet, her music is somewhere between ambient and dream pop; think ethereal synths rich, multi-layered choral harmonies, and melodies that echo British folk traditions. There&#8217;s a lot of unusual and fascinating music to discover from her choices below, and I&#8217;ve included a playlist with everything she mentions on it for your listening ease. </p><div It occurs to me quite often, that I could probably be somewhat proficient in another language if I&#8217;d invested the hours I&#8217;ve spent on listening to new music on that instead. I could probably be ripped from all sorts of exercising, I could have learnt to do the fandango, but instead . . . I have a newsletter. We all make choices. </p><p>Behind every newsletter you read, and ESPECIALLY ones that require actual research into something, rather than ones that are just like &#8220;I am rich, here&#8217;s what I did this weekend, (somehow I am cursed to always open these ones) there are hours of work: There is time missed with family and friends, books not read, films not watched, walks not taken, crisp and refreshing glasses of wine not drunk. It&#8217;s slightly obscene that so many of us have given ourselves poorly paid 2nd jobs, and mostly what makes it worth it, is knowing that people actually read what you write and getting nice responses, or hopefully feeling like you&#8217;re benefiting in some way from the hours you put in. </p><p>This week I spent basically a whole weekend listening to new music. I thought I&#8217;d show you what that looks like as part of my embarrassing pivot to video. The main thing is that listening like this looks <strong>extremely imperfect</strong>. It looks like doing many other things while also listening: cooking dinner, trying on dresses I just had altered, walking the dog, driving, red light!!! It is not a rapt state of attention, because a rapt state of attention on that many songs over a weekend is not an option, because I have a <em>rich and busy </em>life, although I am also a person who spent the whole weekend making time lapse videos of herself so perhaps I do not.</p><p></p><div class="native-video-embed" data-component-name="VideoPlaceholder" data-attrs="{&quot;mediaUploadId&quot;:&quot;b0fcf760-cf0f-45ce-943c-7589855c298f&quot;,&quot;duration&quot;:null}"></div><p>This is how I listen to my full playlist the first time around to work out what I actually want to spend a bit more time with. This &#8220;everything&#8221; playlist which is built out over the course of a week, is essentially a dumping ground for every new song or album I come across. It gets refined into a smaller selection, which then gets turned into this final playlist. Along the way I set full albums aside that get added to my list of best albums of the year, certain songs might get added to playlists I use for my actual job placing music, and ideally I end up with about 40 songs which get a closer listen, and 10-20 songs that I end up recommending. </p><p>It is not a perfect method, I&#8217;m sure things get missed along the way, but perfection is often the enemy of action!<strong> So instead this is 438 songs listened to humanly, with a life happening alongside them.</strong> I think it&#8217;s a good thing to remember: your listening doesn&#8217;t have to be some sacred thing, it can be a song that&#8217;s on while you drive, while you&#8217;re getting dressed, while you take a walk. I am not advocating for turning music into something background, but maybe for a little more allowance for imperfect listening in order to find the songs we really do want to listen to. </p><div I am of the opinion that you can have a great dinner party pretty much anywhere, because the main thing you need is just a generous spirit and some lovely guests. A wonderful meal, good lighting, perfect music and a beautiful table setting are wonderful, but hosting people is mostly about being generous with your time and your space, about being delighted when someone decides it&#8217;s time to perform <em>My Way </em>at 1am, or being okay with someone spilling wine on your exquisite couch. (Don&#8217;t be weird about people spilling things. You shouldn&#8217;t own things that you love more than the people who might destroy them.) It&#8217;s about making the space you invite people into so welcoming that they almost don&#8217;t want to leave. </p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg" width="447" height="596" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:1024,&quot;width&quot;:768,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:447,&quot;bytes&quot;:260920,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/jpeg&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://emmawithers.substack.com/i/166264599?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ryxf!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F240cc183-76bb-4d79-a80b-366db3ebe993_768x1024.jpeg 1456w" sizes="100vw"></picture><div class="image-link-expand"><div class="pencraft pc-display-flex pc-gap-8 pc-reset"><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container restack-image"><svg role="img" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 20 20" fill="none" stroke-width="1.5" stroke="var(--color-fg-primary)" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g><title></title><path d="M2.53001 7.81595C3.49179 4.73911 6.43281 2.5 9.91173 2.5C13.1684 2.5 15.9537 4.46214 17.0852 7.23684L17.6179 8.67647M17.6179 8.67647L18.5002 4.26471M17.6179 8.67647L13.6473 6.91176M17.4995 12.1841C16.5378 15.2609 13.5967 17.5 10.1178 17.5C6.86118 17.5 4.07589 15.5379 2.94432 12.7632L2.41165 11.3235M2.41165 11.3235L1.5293 15.7353M2.41165 11.3235L6.38224 13.0882"></path></g></svg></button><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container view-image"><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" class="lucide lucide-maximize2 lucide-maximize-2"><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line></svg></button></div></div></div></a><figcaption class="image-caption">Martha says a well composed plate is, for a moment, as satisfying as a C&#233;zanne still life! She&#8217;s very &#8220;why not play some flute concertos or perhaps Simon &amp; Garfunkel.&#8221; Very &#8220;why not hire a string quartet, a rock band, a pair of fiddlers or some Renaissance balladeers.&#8221; I have a simpler suggestion: <strong>Your dinner party does not need flutists, balladeers or a rented jukebox, but it does perhaps need 3 playlists</strong>. written book that will change my life, that will gently shake me out of my ways and turn me into a well- rested and sufficiently hydrated charm machine, a thriving bundle of life who has more hours in the day than she knows what to do with. Recently I read Marion Milner&#8217;s <em>A Life Of Ones Own</em>, which, while it has not changed my life, has certainly gently swayed it. </p><p>For years Milner, a writer and psychoanalyst (this is not the stuff of self-help sections!) embarked on a project of discovering what brought her joy, and used her diaries to analyse the things in every day life that did so. She writes about walking, drawing, looking and listening; she pays attention to leisure and to pleasure. She chooses to be curious about her mind and life instead of trying to improve it and she suggests that the way to contentment is through greater familiarity with ourselves and our circumstances. </p><p>I particularly liked the drawing she included in the book, which is the picture at the top of this newsletter. It is Milner, seated before a stick figure orchestra, arms outstretched, trying to beam herself into the music. She writes: </p><blockquote><p>The first hint that I really had the power to control the <em>way</em> I looked at things happened in connexion with music. Always before, my listening had been too much bothered by the haunting idea that there was far more in it than I was hearing; but occasionally I would find that I had slipped through this barrier <strong>to a delight that was enough in itself, in which I forgot my own inadequacy. . . </strong>Sometimes I seemed to put my awareness into the soles of my feet, sometimes to send something which was myself out into the hall, or to feel as if I were standing just beside the orchestra. </p></blockquote><p>It&#8217;s not an easy thing to do, and I think there are pieces of music that lend themselves more to this approach than others, but I&#8217;ve had this little image of hers in mind when I&#8217;ve been listening to music lately , beaming myself into the music rather than distracting myself with it, or trying to come to a conclusion about it. There&#8217;s more to see and to hear if we can still the voice inside us that finds it hard to stop thinking about ourselves, or ourselves in relation to others, a widening of experience, a giving over to the wisdom of the ears, a slipping through the barrier to a delight that is enough in itself and perhaps even a gentle swaying in how you live your life. </p><p>Here are 10 new songs for you, the first two might be the best to practice this kind of listening on, but you can decide for yourself! Behind the paywall this week I&#8217;ve included a playlist with every song that was featured in this newsletter in 2025 as well as one for 2026 so far, which will provide you with absolute hours of music to beam yourself into! </p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://emmawithers.substack.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">why not subscribe? </p></div><form class="subscription-widget-subscribe"><input type="email" class="email-input" name="email" placeholder="Type your email&#8230;" tabindex="-1"><input type="submit" class="button primary" value="Subscribe"><div class="fake-input-wrapper"><div class="fake-input"></div><div class="fake-button"></div></div></form></div></div><h4><a href="https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4eIXv6IJzNbhFoLpjM0tRO?si=67b70da53f2d45a7">SPOTIFY PLAYLIST </a></h4><h4><a href="https://music.apple.com/za/playlist/24-03-26/pl.u-qxyl05DsXRW0gJ">APPLE MUSIC PLAYLIST </a></h4><p></p><div class="bandcamp-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://green-house.bandcamp.com/track/sun-dogs&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Sun Dogs, by Green-House&quot;,&quot;description&quot;:&quot;from the album Hinterlands&quot;,&quot;thumbnail_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/ac892d90-7f41-48b4-8f50-915e30b7c5a3_700x700.jpeg&quot;,&quot;author&quot;:&quot;Green-House&quot;,&quot;embed_url&quot;:&quot;https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=481987493/transparent=true/&quot;,&quot;is_album&quot;:false}" data-component-name="BandcampToDOM"><iframe src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=481987493/transparent=true/" frameborder="0" gesture="media" scrolling="no" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div><p>Recently my husband told that me he has started talking to the plants in our garden when he waters them to encourage them to grow. He smiled and told me his tooth had just fallen out, and held out his hand to show me. So I was inspired to write a song about that and our friendship. Thanks to John for being down to join me on the song and always being a good friend and inspiration to me :) Musically, one of my favorite parts is the arpeggiated guitar chords, inspired by a Guinga tune I learned.&#8221;</p></blockquote><p>Bookstores, tooth fairy&#8217;s, being good and kind friends - this whole EP just keeps being adorable.</p><p></p><div class="bandcamp-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://kimgordon.bandcamp.com/track/play-me&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;PLAY ME, by Kim Gordon&quot;,&quot;description&quot;:&quot;from the album PLAY ME&quot;,&quot;thumbnail_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/251233b4-b260-44c4-a8a6-d70d6afe7af2_700x700.jpeg&quot;,&quot;author&quot;:&quot;Kim Gordon&quot;,&quot;embed_url&quot;:&quot;https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1226336318/transparent=true/&quot;,&quot;is_album&quot;:false}" data-component-name="BandcampToDOM"><iframe src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=333333/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1226336318/transparent=true/" frameborder="0" gesture="media" scrolling="no" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div><p>I started listening to this full album as I picked up my niece and her friend, who let it get about 2 minutes in before being like &#8220;what <em>is</em> this.&#8221; Hahahaah they fell into my trap and I got to give them a small lecture on Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon, women in music and aging.
