Install Fullbleed for Python

Fullbleed supports Python 3.10–3.14. Published wheels cover Windows, macOS, and Linux, including the architectures listed below.

python -m pip install fullbleed
python -m fullbleed --version
python -m fullbleed doctor --strict --json

Use python3 if that is your Python command. The wheel bundles the engine and fonts; the core package has no required third-party Python runtime dependencies.

Use a virtual environment

python -m venv .venv

On Windows PowerShell:

.venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1
python -m pip install fullbleed

On macOS or Linux:

source .venv/bin/activate
python -m pip install fullbleed

Published platforms

Platform Wheel targets
Windows x86-64, x86, ARM64
macOS Intel, Apple silicon
Linux, manylinux2014 x86-64, x86, ARM64, ARMv7, s390x, ppc64le
Linux, musllinux 1.2 x86-64, x86, ARM64, ARMv7

The stable-ABI wheels cover supported CPython versions. For an unsupported target, a source build requires Rust; source build instructions are in the engine repository.

Python 3.15 preview

The separate Python Preview checks exercise CPython 3.15.0rc3, with the standard GIL, on Windows x64 and Linux x64. They install the same abi3 wheel tested on Python 3.10, run the installed API and CLI checks, and compare generated PDFs and previews byte for byte. The coverage note explains the retained evidence and the explicit skip for an unavailable legacy subinterpreter API.

Python 3.10–3.14 remains the supported stable range. These preview checks do not establish compatibility with Python 3.15 final, free-threaded builds, or macOS on this preview.

Run in Docker

The Docker invoice starter includes a FastAPI app, editable HTML/CSS, bundled fonts, and a Dockerfile tested on Debian slim and Alpine on x64 and ARM64. It installs wheels with --only-binary=:all: and runs as a non-root user with a read-only filesystem. Use it to check your container integration before adapting the renderer to your application.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Next step
fullbleed command is not found Use python -m fullbleed from the environment where you installed it.
pip starts a Rust build Upgrade pip and check that your Python/platform has a published wheel. Use --only-binary=:all: to require one; the Docker starter demonstrates this in slim and Alpine images.
Permission or externally managed environment error Install inside a virtual environment.
