# Third-party verification


To further improve transparency on Telegram, **official third-party services** are able to assign **extra verification icons** to user accounts and chats — in order to **prevent scams** and **reduce misinformation**.

This is done through [official verified bots, verified by Telegram as specified here »](https://telegram.org/verify#third-party-verification).  

Once verified by Telegram, the following schema can be used by the bot or by the user that owns the bot to assign or revoke the third-party verification icon of user accounts and chats:

Bots that can verify peers will have the [botInfo](/constructor/botInfo.md).`verifier_settings` flag set ([botInfo](/constructor/botInfo.md) is contained in the bot's [userFull](/constructor/userFull.md)), containing a [botVerifierSettings](/constructor/botVerifierSettings.md) constructor, containing the ID of the [custom emoji &raquo;](/api/custom-emoji.md) used as verification icon, the name of the organization that provides verification, an optional default description for the verification and a flag that indicates whether the bot is allowed to set a custom description field for individual verified peers.  

Bots that have the `verifier_settings` flag set may invoke [bots.setCustomVerification](/method/bots.setCustomVerification.md) to verify peers or remove verification from peers: this method may be also invoked by the owner of the verifier bot, passing the bot's ID in `bot`.  

Verified peers will have the `bot_verification_icon` flag populated with the ID of the [custom emoji &raquo;](/api/custom-emoji.md) used as verification icon in the associated [user](/constructor/user.md), [channel](/constructor/channel.md) constructors, and a more detailed `bot_verification` flag containing a [botVerification](/constructor/botVerification.md) constructor in the associated [userFull](/constructor/userFull.md), [channelFull](/constructor/channelFull.md), [chatInvite](/constructor/chatInvite.md) constructors.
