Review:
A very good, upfront and powerful recording. The sound can be a bit muddled here and there, but overall it's quite nice and very listenable. The performance is also very good throughout, although the 'sing-song' voice is in evidence at many points. This tour was destined to be overshadowed by the fantastic Fall 2002 shows which followed, and perhaps in retrospect, the
particular leg of the touring year represented by this disc seems a little 'average' in comparison. Nice performances throughout, although nothing really remarkable. The 'bonus' tracks are in awful quality, and aren't much of a bonus at all, it would've been better if the label had picked something more interesting and in better sound quality as fillers. Packaging is the usual 'Tambourine Man' minimal but smart and the title is a bit odd. A good, but by no means essential release.

Review:
A jam packed 80 minute disc offering various studio outtakes of the 60s. While this is a great quality set, I prefer to have a full set from a particular session, rather than hop scotching on highlights. That said, there are some real gems here. While appearing on several other boot releases, the fan of top quality studio outtakes will enjoy this. This is the first instalment of a series that was intended (as the title implies) to chronicle acetate recordings of studio outtakes. However, it loses momentum after the first two releases. The covers are generic scenes of roadways. While captivating, they have no Dylan tie-in.

Review:
This series was (as the title implies) meant to be a collection of acetate recordings. By this third issue, Howlin Wolf has taken the reigns, and the hodgepodge mess offered here is anything but. There are some interesting tracks, but it would be far better to find a collection that presents them in the context of the other material that was recorded at the same time. The packaging and accompanying info is fairly nice, but this one should be left to the completists.

Review:
Some songs are direct line soundboard recordings, others are great sounding audience recordings. Although the quality is there, the need for compilations such as the ones presented in this series is questionable at best. The Dylan images on this package are minimal.

Review:
In 2001, an unknown Japanese manufacturer re-released several classic boot CDs using the old TMQ logos. For this reason, they are referred to as "TMOQ Japan". The disc is in a cardboard slip case with a front sticker printed black on pastel green. The photo is a nice shot of Dylan and Cash taken during the filming for the Cash show at Ryman Auditorium. There's a silver foil TMQ-2 sticker on the back, and the TMQ-2 logo is printed on the CD. The immediate source of this release is not known, but it was most likely Nashville 1969.

Review:
An exhaustive 5 CD collection that chronicles the four 1999 club shows that Dylan performed during the Dylan-Simon tour. Over six and a half hours of music containing the entire Eugene and NY shows, and the bulk of the other two shows. Missing is the duplicated encore songs Highway 61 Revisited, It Ain't Me, Babe, &Not Fade Away from Detroit; and Like A Rolling Stone, It Ain't Me Babe, Not Fade Away & Blowin' In The Wind from Cincinnati. As an added bonus, the set includes 'Highlands' from the MSG show. Each CD is a different color and features the manufacturer's wolf logo. Each comes in an individual sleeve with a generic front and track list on back. The sleeves are housed in a classy looking cardboard box.

Fairly good audience recording of the entire show. Interesting performances of greatest hits material. Nice looking front cover photo. This should be left for the completeist, as the show is released as a soundboard as well.

Review:
This line feed recording is great quality. It was made from a circulating disc traded by collectors. The show is only average, with the acoustic songs being by far the best. The runaway song in the electric set would have to go to a brilliant Absolutely Sweet Marie. Hence, the title. The package aesthetics leave a lot to be desired. A great cover photo is ruined by a ridiculously large title written in poor choices of fonts. What could have been two brilliant silk screen discs are both ruined by cutting off Dylan's head. Definitely one for the what were they thinking award. The back cover and tray liner fare a little better, but each has their own problems.

Review:
The two and a half hours of music on this set represent the full show of the 16th, and all but two songs from the 17th. The two missing songs are Silvio and Roving Gambler. Silvio is not one of my favorite songs, and it was played the night before, but Gambler is another story. The acoustic song is quite nice, and the only performance of the venue should have been included. This is a minor quibble, though. Overall, it's hard to knock this title, as this is one of Thinman's strongest releases to date. The photos are very nice, the information seems to be correct, the overall aesthetics are pleasing, and best of all, the recording is quite good. The splice and edit noises that have plagued this Label in the past are not to be found here. The vocals are far out front, and the music is well mixed. This is one you'll enjoy, but it's not the best of the tour. There are soundboards that have been released from around this time, and there are about sixty or so silvers that have focused on this tour. However, the George shows have not before appeared on silver, and there are those that believe you can never have enough Bob, so... "Here's to you."

Review:
This is yet another in the incredible Crystal Cat series that documents the Y2K European tour. The packages are all similarly simple and elegant. A ticket to the event graces the front cover of a 'mood ring' inspired background. The CDs in this series all have the same basic design of the cat logo and various time pieces. The backgrounds all vary in pattern and color. This is a very limited glass master set with only 500 of each title being produced.

Noteworthy:
Dylan wrote the nonsensical liner notes for his 1965 masterpiece Highway 61 Revisited. Even back then there were a few thoughts floating around his mind that would, years later, seem almost prophetic. The following lines have been pulled from those liner notes:
On the slow train time does not interfere.
...Inevitables made of solid rock...
...she points to the slow train & prays...
Lifelessness said when introducing everybody "go save the world"
...the subject matter -- though meaningless as it is -- has something to do with ... the holy slow train.

Review:

The first fourteen gospel concerts that Bob ever performed were all at San Francisco's Fox Warfield Theater. The next four were at the Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica. This show is the fourth and final night of Santa Monica. So, while this is the eighteenth performance of the Gospel Tour, it's only the second venue that Dylan and the band have played. While this show was released as a commercial CDr nearly two decades earlier, this is the first appearance on silver disc. The Thinman has once again created a beautiful package with incredible period photos, and pleasing fonts, graphics and layout. The discs themselves are each offset printed with different concert photos from the tour that take up half of the disc. There are more images to be found on the liner and insert back. This is simply a great package. As for the music... I can't say enough about these gospel shows. They are among my favorite Dylan shows of all time. Every song is an incredible highlight. Dylan pours himself into these new songs like a man possessed... by the Holy Spirit. Of course, all shows are alike in content and format. The songs never change, the order never changes. To a casual fan, they can become tiresome. As for me, I can't get enough. Just to hear the different raps, intros and preaching that Bob does is worth owning every show. Bob performs every song from the Slow Train album, and every original song that would eventually appear on the Saved album except for the as yet unwritten Are You Ready.

It would be easy to dismiss this new release as a pirate or counterfeit CD, but it isn't either in the strictest sense of the terms. The recording has been long out of print on CD, and this release (despite using the same graphics as the official album) doesn't attempt to pass itself off as an official release. First of all, it's presented in a great looking glossy 3 panel foldout DigiPak with a silk screened CD. It all looks wonderful. Not only was the official CD package different from this, but it was never released in North America in the first place. Secondly, the manufacturer has made use of the CD's 80 minute playing time by including unreleased material recorded during a similar time frame... all in great quality. Lastly, the official recording was not taken from the 'A Fool Such As I' CD, it's a transfer from an excellent, clean and crackle free vinyl edition of Dylan (The title of the LP). As such, I find it retains a kind of warm analogue feel that is lacking on the official CD edition. This being the case, I feel that this is a great package for people who want to have this hidden gem in their collection, but are unable to find an official CD, or find the three figure sums often required in order to purchase a second hand copy of the out-of-print CBS CD a bit too much to ask.
