AI doesn't change what software engineering is.
Hi, I'm Bob Belderbos. Software engineering was never just writing code, it's judgment: what to build, what to keep, what to rewrite. AI changes how the work gets done, not what makes you good at it. I help engineers build that judgment faster: 20 years writing software, 6 years coaching more than 150 engineers, Python and now also agentic AI and Rust.
Where are you stuck?
Every engagement is custom and starts with an email: what you're building, where you're stuck, where you want to be. If it's a fit we take it to a call.
Think like a senior engineer
Develop the judgment experienced engineers use to evaluate architecture, not just write code. Weekly architecture reviews, ADRs, and PR reviews that teach the why, so you can explain and defend your decisions.
Pick this if you can write code but don't yet reason about it the way a senior does.
How it works →Rescue your AI-built codebase
Know exactly what to keep, rewrite, and trust, and explain it without leaning on a chatbot. A repo and risk audit, the real control flow traced end to end, a prioritized roadmap, and a test harness where it's thin.
Pick this if you're shipping fast with AI but don't fully trust, or don't fully understand, a working app of reasonable scope.
How it works →Ship your SaaS
Go from idea to a deployed product that's actually yours, built right enough to keep growing. We design the architecture, build it in layers, review every PR, and ship it live, so you understand every part and can keep adding to it without it collapsing.
Pick this if you're taking an idea to a real product you own.

Structured 6-week programs
Productized cohorts you can join directly or move into after 1:1. Build your foundations with a full-stack Python app, or go deeper: production AI systems, or systems engineering with Rust.
Python Build
Build your foundations: a full-stack, layered, tested Python app. Choose your build: a full-stack web app, a Django SaaS, or a new project we scope together. Repository pattern, TDD, three interfaces, cloud deploy.
View program →Agentic AI
Beyond the hype: the agent loop is easy, a maintainable and predictable system around it is hard. Function calling, three interfaces, 95%+ tests, Docker. Led by Juanjo Expósito.
View program →Systems with Rust
Think like a systems engineer: learn how modern infrastructure is built in Rust, and where scripting languages hit their limits. A Rust + PyO3 parser, benchmarked against CPython. Led by Jim Hodapp.

More than 150 developers coached since 2020.
“I was building a full-stack application mostly through AI-assisted coding and needed guidance to take it from proof of concept to production. Bob coached me through the parts I couldn’t validate on my own: Django settings architecture, payment security, error handling patterns, query optimization. He reviewed my codebase thoroughly, explained why things mattered, and helped me build a concrete testing strategy. More than anything, his coaching gave me the confidence to actually ship.”— Luca S. · Founder · Took a proof of concept to production SaaS
“Bob encourages you not to wait for 100% — push iterative improvements. Two of my three apps are now in production and got good recognition among my peers.”— Manoj K. · USA · 10+ years IT, apps now in production
“Six years later, I can see that doing the coaching was a great decision. I learned to write clean, well-tested, production-ready code and to think critically about my work. In January I was promoted to Senior AI Engineer and became a team coordinator — both were in my plan, though I wasn’t sure I could do it.”— Piotr R., Senior AI Engineer at Lingaro · Coached in 2020
“I grew more in a few weeks than I would have in 2+ years by myself. After years of dreaming of personal projects, I finally built an API, a Django app, and an AI-powered CLI tool.”— Kishan P., Data Engineer · Built 3 apps
“I’d maxed out every book and online course — Coursera, Udacity, Udemy — and hit a wall I couldn’t break through on my own. I expected to build one app. I shipped three.”— Joshua E. · Product manager to senior software engineer, now leading AI development
“I didn't just learn how to code — I learned how to think like a developer. I now feel comfortable working across the full stack. More importantly, I feel like a real developer.”— Christina L. · From scripter to full-stack developer
“Three months ago I was literally writing ‘Hello World’. I went from basic scripts to launching a full-scale SaaS payroll application in three months. I just landed my first real business client who ran their entire payroll using my app. Seeing someone have that trust and confidence in something I built is surreal.”— Ryan A. · Built and launched thepayroll.app
About me
Bob Belderbos
I've been programming since 2006: VBA macros, PHP, Perl, and since 2012 Python. 10+ years building software at Sun/Oracle, then co-founded Pybites end of 2016, hosting 500+ coding exercises across two platforms I built.
Since 2020 I've coached more than 150 engineers, from beginners to seniors, helping them ship real apps and grow their confidence. I keep my training current with AI because productivity without system knowledge creates a mess. Also fascinated by Rust since 2024, which is making me a better Python developer. I coach 1:1 and co-run two cohorts: Agentic AI with Juanjo Expósito, and Scripter to Rust with Jim Hodapp. More about me →
